I operate a bartending school in the Washington DC region;  the
Professional Bartending School 2440 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington
Virginia  22201  703 841 9700

For searches that include both Washington DC, a nearby town, and the
term bartending school the following businesses show up on Google
Maps;  all of which are closed, not operating, or haven't been
operating for years.

Capitol Bartending School Alexandria  703 549 5850.  Closed this year.

Bartending School vli  Falls Church  703 237 3905.  This is a massage
therapy school.

Global Bartending.  This number is disconnected and hasn't been
operating for many many years.

Maryland Bartending Academy College Park    .....and

Bartender's Academy Greenbelt

Both have the same number 301 513 0256.  The number rolls over to a
location for the Maryland Bartending Academy located in Glen Burnie
Maryland.

Bartender of America Bartending School 9651 Baltimore Avenue, College
Park.

This school never opened.

Besides that you show a number of higly ranked or top ranked services
that are simply not bartending schools.

Your information needs to be cleaned up.  It is dramatically wrong and
misleading.

It is more misleading than any other source including the Yellow Pages
print versions or anything in existance.

How can the clean up of the information be accomplished?

Dave

Hi Dave,

Google Maps receives its information from a variety of Yellow Pages sources
- if a business never opens, it should drop out of our database when we
update our information from those sources. I can't shed any light onto how
keywords or categories are assigned to specific listings, but I can assure
that it is done through an algorithm and that all the search results you're
seeing are generated that way.

I can certainly understand why these listings might be misleading. We're
working to make our listings as accurate as possible.

Thanks,
Jen

Jen:

Thanks for the response, Jen.  It would seem G would want to work off of
current, rather than very antiquated information.  The example, I gave shows
quite a number of locations and information that is outdated by 7 years or
longer.

Since I do not see a way to inform Google of current changes I'm going to
reiterate a number of closed businesses that were specifically bartending
schools but have been out of business for some period of time.  (I won't
bother referencing the other sites, some of which have very obscure
references to this category, some of which have less obscure references)

Global Bartending
404 N George Mason Drive, Arlington, VA
703 526 0342

This place has been closed probably 9 years.  The phone # is disconnected

Bartending School-Vli
803 W Broad Street,
Falls Church VA
703 237 3905

This number is for a Massage Therapy School.  I believe this is a carry over
from a school that closed 7 years ago.  This is definately not a bartending
school.

Professional Bartending School
Falls Church, VA
(703) 241 -2420

This is a roll over number to our operating school.  We purchased it about 7
years ago when another bartending school folded.  We believe the number we
purchased and the above referenced school (bartending school vli) were one
and the same.  We'd suggest you rid yourselves of both.  With G's new method
of highlighting local businesses via G maps and accessing every source under
the rainbow....it leads to dramatic and massive confusion.  It is simply far
far far more pronounced since G maps became very visable.  It wasn't
anywhere's near this pronounced over the last 7 years.  I'd say the power of
G maps has dramatically more impact than any form of print yellow pages.
Allowing situations like this will provide for widespread confusion for
consumers.  The distance between the two locations is 8.3 miles and 14
minutes using G maps

Capital Bartending School
716 Church Street
Alexandria, Virginia.
(703) 549 5850

This school closed last year.  We know.  They sold us their equipment.  The
phone still operates and it rolls to an individual's personal number.  We
are aware they remain licensed to operate for some portion of a year in
which they have a license to operate through the state regulatory board.

Maryland Bartending Academy
College park, Md
(301) 513 0256

This location closed at least 7 years ago, or longer.  The phone number
rolls over to a school in Glen Burnie, Maryland.  The distance is
approximately 28 miles and 34 minutes using directions via Google maps.
That is quite a distance and time frame for a reference that is trying to be
local.  Similarly it references a business that is generally considered
within the Baltimore metropolitan region versus the Washington DC region.

Bartender's Academy Inc
Beltsville, Maryland
(301) 513 0256

This is a 2nd location for the school referenced immediately above.  Again
it had to have closed approximately 7or more years ago.  The actual location
of a school which both of these represent was in College Park, Maryland.

Bartender of America Bartending School
9651 Baltimore Avenue, Coolge Park, MD
(301) 220-0055

This represents a web site purportedly representing a school.  The actual
physical site was closed by officials of the Maryland Education System which
oversees all such schools.  The website was advertising an entity which is
supposed to operate under state regulation for consumer protection laws.

The current phone number rolls over to a second phone number, 301 220 0221.

By advertising these closed schools Google is actually making the job of
state consumer regulatory boards more difficult.

All other listings for searches of bartending schools either show operating
bartending schools, or some other obscure references.

Since there is no other way for Google to remove listings I hope this is
sufficient to get Google to remove the seriously erroneous information.  If
not please let me know what we can do to help Google supply more accurate
information.

Sincerely,

Dave

Hey Dave,

Thank you so much for all this detailed information. We'll look into your
reports further to try and track down where our data might be outdated. I
definitely appreciate your taking the time on this!

Cheers,
Jen
