Dear all,

Hope somebody is able to give me a helping hand as I tried everything
but couldn't solve the problem. No ideas left except the one of
killing myself.

I'm using this fantastic map solution for a class reunion website. In
the end I won't have much more than 30 markers. Currently I have 26
but strangely can't add any. First I thought there might be a limit
but then I saw that some of you have maps with hundreds of icons. So
that can't be the reason.

Unfortunately a link to the page won't help as it can only be viewed
if you are logged in. Just to give you a feeling what I wanted to do
please feel free and visit http://www.mississauga4sale.com/listings-google-maps.htm.
Mine is similar.

I have markers with A, B, C ... and ones with 1, 2, 3 .... PLUS one
GREEN END. These are linked with names below the map (if you click on
them the info window upon the appropriate marker opens).

It worked fine for several weeks. But when I added more addresses it
started to fail with 3 names. Whenever I click on them nothing
happens. No info window.

And as I wrote in the beginning it is not possible to add more
markers. They don't show up at all. No matter what I'm trying to do.

Any idea what could cause this trouble? I went though the discussions
but it seems this problem never came up before. Which gives me a
feeling like I'm the only stupid. ;)

Therefore any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance and
greetz from Germany!

Enni

PS: Don't know if it's an important information but the js-file (2.4
(3)) and the icons are hosted locally.

Just a quick thought.....
Check there is no space between the lat / lng codes. If you are
copying them from google maps for example the space, if not removed
will break gmapez.

Thank you for your feedback, Neil. Unfortunately this is not the
reason for my problems. There is absolutely no space in the code. But
while doing some more tests I found out that it only happens with
certain addresses. Those are shown correctly in Google maps but not
with GMapEZ for some reason. I have no idea, why. May be you?

This is one of the addresses:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=de&geocode=&q=Moorweg+8,+26203+Achternmeer,+Wardenburg,+Germany&sll=50.167843,8.315663&sspn=0.008893,0.018775&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=addr

Why is life that mean to me? ;)

Wow ... what a fast reply. Thank you so much! Actually, nothing is
changing. The problem remains. Also ... all the working addresses have
the additional 's' as well. Hm ... I'm running out of ideas. ;)

But I just realized that I should rather copy the code from the
address bar of maps.google.com instead of going to 'URL to this page'.
In the address bar you'll get ll and spn instead of sll and sspn.

If you have any other clue just let me know. Otherwise I'll leave it
like it is. It won't ruin my life. ;)

Thanks again. Enni

I'm back. ;)

And I guess, I'm almost there even I wanted to give up. I just
compared the working addresses to the non-working ones and in addition
to your message, Chouser, I discovered that indeed there is a
difference with the ll/sll and spn/sspn stuff.

Because the working ones have both! And the non-working only have sll
and sspn.

Look here:

Working:

maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=de&geocode=&q=Breeweg+42,+26188+Edewecht,
+Germany&sll=54.162434,8.635254&sspn=3.158418,7.404785&ie=UTF8&ll=53.121951,7.982962&spn=0.006323,0.014462&z=16&iwloc=addr&om=1

Non-working:

maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=de&geocode=&q=breeweg
+42,+26188+Edewecht&sll=50.070856,8.490253&sspn=0.010109,0.015213&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=addr

So it appears there was a change at maps.google.com. As they obviously
changed the links. I always copied my links from 'URL to this page'
and it worked (forget the nonsense about the address bar I wrote in my
prior post. It was just a coincidence). Now it doesn't. *cry*

Please have a look into the working code. The numbers for ll and spn
differ from the ones of sll and sspn! And what is going on with the
non-working code? Even it is the same address it shows other
coordinates??????????

Could you simply let me know how do you get your codes from
maps.google.com? May be this is the way out of all my problems. Do you
go to maps.google.com at all or do you collect information from
another site?

Thanks for letting me know. Enni

Oh dear.

This is exactly how I've done it, and it's the recommended procedure.
Indeed the ll and sll number are different, which means now I have to
go figure out why and what they mean. Would you mind trying
something? Just delete the s off the front of sll and sspn on the
non-working ones and see if the markers show up, and if they do if
they are at the location you wanted.

I really don't know. I'll have to look into it. Maybe it's a German
thing -- do you pronounce "Latitude" as "Slatitude"?

Never mind this. sspn and sll have to do with whatever search you did
trying to find the address, and are probably not the location you
want.

There's a little item in the instructions that you are probably
skipping. ...as do a lot of people I think, so I'll make this stand
out a little:

//=========================================
||
|| After you have searched and found the
|| location you want, you must double-click
|| or drag the map before copying the URL.
|| Just completing the search is not enough
|| (the URL you copy won't work).
||
\\=========================================

This detail is mentioned here:
http://n01se.net/gmapez/start.html#marker

So try that for the markers that aren't working, and let me know if
they still don't work.

Chris,

Here is what I have been doing:

I search out the Google address as such:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=5432+Marlin+St,+Rockville,+MD+20853&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=63.215425,108.808594&ie=UTF8&ll=39.098011,-77.108123&spn=0.00771,0.013282&z=16

The I use Microsoft Streets & Trips and the Location Sensor function
to get GPS coordinates at or near the address that was searched. I
replace the coordinates in this portion:

&ie=UTF8&ll=39.098011,-77.108123

with the GPS coordinates from Streets & Trips. This makes the marker
placment very accurate and I can also place markers in the woods or in
the water where there are no addresses.

Chouser! You are my hero! Just clicking a bit into the map helps. :)

Actually, I have read that note before but since I never had problems
with the addresses in the beginning I forgot about it. Don't know when
and why it changed but this is the solution!

But still I get both versions in the link: sll and sspn and ll and spn
(can't have to do with German language as here it is called
'Längengrad' and 'Breitengrad' ;)). I don't care that your example
links look simplier. Most important thing is, it is working after all
and I'm happy again. Do you want to marry me? ;)))

Thanks again for your patience and kind support. It is highly
appreciated.

I just found another way to get the most precise data for the
addresses and get rid of the sll and sspn. It's a bit more laborious
but for me it's worth it. May be for somebody else as well. Therefore
I want to share.

1. Go to http://www.multimap.com
2. Find your map by entering the address into the according 'find a
map' field
3. Then see below the map the information about 'Lat' and 'Lon'. In
brackets you find the needed numbers.
4. Open another window/tab with http://maps.google.com and enter the
coordinates (Lat and Lon) in the address field. Just separated by a
comma. Example: 53.12481,8.03667
5. Move the apprearing map a bit and copy the link after you have
clicked on 'Link to this page'. It should look like this now:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=de&geocode=&q=50.07086,8.49028&mrt=loc&ie=UTF8&ll=50.07086,8.49028&spn=0.008911,0.018775&t=h&z=16
(if necessary, adjust the ll-values to the same one from search like I
did here)
6. Paste it into your GMapEZ-code (a href="...")

You're done!

I've tested it with 2 addresses and it gave better results (markers
more close to the location) than the links from Google when I entered
the addresses there.

So ... feel free to give it a try.
