Have just done some more testing as I found some other asp.net sites

If I type in a zip, it finds it.
If I type in just a state name, nothing?

Hmmm... what does "place information on your map" mean? I think it
means you can let them click on a protected map to locate their home,
hence the need for the "generally accessible" bit in the Terms. I
don't think it means giving them a form to type the raw latitude and
longitude into, with no possibility of using a protected Google Map.

Yes, but sadly Google's terms and their FAQ seem to contradict
themselves. Their FAQ quite clearly says that you can charge people to
use the Google Maps API, so long as the Maps API is generally
accessible for free.
