hello!

if someone is interested in it: i've made a google map application
where i display diagrams with SVG. so you see, it's possible to combine
this techniques.

now it should be possible to connect to a data base instead of a file
and generate the diagrams dynamically. (i haven't done yet...)

note the mouseover and click events on the diagrams.
(i know, that the diagrams doesn't make sense, but don't mind)

note that you have to use a browser with native svg support like
firefox or opera.

I use firefox....and can see only the map

It's only the newest versions of Firefox that support SVG. (I believe
you need 1.5.0.6 or newer)

to marta:
it is important, not to use the adobe svg viewer plugin.
enter "about:config" to your firefox browser and look for the
svg.enabled flag. this flag has to be set "true".
