Subject: Australian Geocode
Hi,

I've been looking at the whole google maps api, and i'm quite
impressed. I've mocked up a live australian weather map at;

http://zippyweather.com

I was hoping that maybe someone might have a good Australian geocode
link, or db? I've seen a couple out there but they are all for payed
subscriptions..

Any aussie's out there playing with this api??

yes, another aussie here..  if you are after latitude/longitude for
Australian cities, there's a few of them in the Geobytes GeoWorldMap
http://www.geobytes.com/FreeServices.htm.

its not actually free, but you can evaluate it for 30 days, according
to the license:
"This is not free software. You are hereby licensed to use the
GeoWorldMap Database for evaluation purposes without charge for a
period of 30 days."

$USD100 to register it.

thanks russ.
Not exactly what i'm after.

so far all i've been able to find is a text file that lists every
street in australia with its corresponding lat/long. I've also found
text files for postcodes/and points of interest with lat/long.

But as yet no real easy form of geocoding australian addresses.

cheers,
james.

Gday James,
The problem with your text file, is that it would need to be updated
all the time.  I'm looking at using mappoint to get the geocode of an
address but this can also be done with google address finder.  I like
using mappoint as it can return points of interest and other
information about a cooridinate cross sections.

Nice work on the weather site.
Another Aussie here. Where did you find the Street local text file?
