Subject: Georgia/Russia map
Out of curiosity, why is the map of the Georgia republic all white
without any roads or city names?

Was it always like this?

With the current conflict going on there, I wanted to see where these
cities were located and I was surprised to find all the surrounding
area normal, but all of Georgia is white without any details.

Google simply don't have the map data for that area, there are quite a
few empty areas.

I noticed the same thing and decided to add a map on my site from the
World Fact Book so people can see the cities.

Microsoft mapping has more detailed maps of Georgia:

I tried the same thing.  I found a public domain UN Map of Georgia
that I overlaid on a Google Map (quick and dirty EInsert Ground
Overlay).
