Subject: Re: The new Maps API ads layer: Released and ready for you to try
I gave it a try for my online shopping maps: http://www.jargol.com/stores/maps/new-york/
Ads show up in the overall view, but  If you click on any of the blue
pinpoint to see neighborhood stores, I haven't ever seen any ads there
yet. If I zoom out from a neighborhood view some ads show up again.
Maybe this is just an consequence of there not being many ads in the
system yet, but I was hoping to see ads in the neighborhood view mixed
in the stores on my map. That I think would be very effective and
useful.

Hi All,

My first requirement is i want to use dropdown instead of search box
as given by Google AJAX Search API. The Google search ajax API  is
providing the desired result
alphabetically but it using default input box and search button which
i can't change to dropdown.
So I want to customize it to desired search control, desired no of
results, the search radius like bird eye, mile etc and displaying
images with overlay infowindow on markup.

Second - I want to change the result as I rotate the google map.

Please solve my problems by giving code/examples/links/mails.

This particular thread is for the gAdsManager, not the Local Search
Control.

Folks here at the Google Maps API group might well help out if you
start a new thread, alternatively please go over to the Google AJAX
API group to discuss the Local Search Control, it's "home".

Hi all,

I just gave it a try this new GAdsManager on my site (http://
ongmap.com).

Although I'm based in Japan (and I know GAdsManager is only available
in US),
a major part of visitors to my site is from US and the site is in both
English and
Japanese.

Problem is I can't see any ads showing up on the map (US map), and I
can't
figure out if this is due to my IP address (geographically blocked?)
or my code
or the content of the site.

Since my site is full of JavaScript and the content is fetched via
Xmlhttp and DOM,
I have inserted a "visibility:hidden" DIV block to tell googlebot what
this site is
offering. This might not be working.

But on the AdSense manager, the count from GAdsManager seems to be
adding
up although no one has clicked yet.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Yuki

I have found the GadsManager to be a bit disappointing, in fact I've
disabled it. One major problem I see is a reduction of performance,
especially when dragging or zooming the map. For all this, there are
few ads and no clicks. Last month I had about 750,000 viewport changes
and a grand total of 3 clicks. Just not worth the drag on the
performance for $.09.

I suggest you consider this.

Hmmm, it's too early to include GAdsManager...
Well, I guess you're right. Maybe I should be turning off GAdsManager
until
Google get more stocks in their geo-AdSense system, and expand its
service
interntionally...

Anyone, any other ideas?

Like you, I have an xml JS overlay website hosted in Japan. (You have a very
nice site by the way - very impressive.)
2 specific questions for google:

1)  - are sites with IP addresses outside the US blacklisted for the
adsmanager service? Is there any chance at all of ads being shown when a
user is looking at a US city map from my Japan hosted site?

2) If we are not passing context, with some crude steam-web text, or hidden
divs of a kind that are generally frowned on by google, is there any chance
at all of ads appearing?

Hi variable-
Re 1), you should still potentially be able to display ads in the US
region from a Japan-hosted site.
Re 2), some keywords could also be garnered from your domain/file
name, if it's useful. I'm not sure I've ever seen a site with
absolutely no associated keywords. Additional context definitely
helps, however.

Thanks for the response.

Alas, diddlefinger.com appears to be regarded as insufficiently informative.
 [Perhaps a blessing...]

Hi variable,
It looks like diddlefinger.com is analyzed as being about japan, which
would make it harder to get US-relevent ads. (Most US advertisers
won't use 'japan' as one of their keywords).

How about ongmap.com? Is it also analyzed as being about Japan? Any
ads showing
up if it's seen from US (I haven't tured off GAdsManager yet)? Does
hidden DIV do any work?

Thanks

Yuki
