Last week I created a kml file and uploaded it to Google Pages. I then
entered the URL into the "Search" box on maps.google.com, and the kml
file loaded into the resulting map perfectly. This link is a cropped
screencap of what I saw last week:
The kml file, which loads fine in Google Earth, is hosted here. I
tightened up the file slightly from the version that failed to load
this morning (and loaded last week just fine), thinking that might fix
it, so it's not the *exact* same file I had success with last week:
I thought I might be hitting the ~60 item limit I read about online
(though obviously I hadn't last week), so I created a test file with
fewer placemarks, hosted here:
Thanks for trying it out, Mike. It's very puzzling -- I'm still
getting the error on FF2 (.0.0.9) and IE on WinNT SP4. I've had a
friend in a different Canadian city try and he's gotten the error
message too. I'm completely stumped. I'm going to see if Google Maps
can load the file if I host it on another free hosting service, but
apart from that...I've got nothing. Any ideas for other things I could
try experimenting with?
Here's the full error text that shows up in the left-hand pane:
Perhaps you simply went over the bandwidth limit (I think 100Mb daily) on google pages - Google Maps would simply report that as a not found, although you would hope the caching at Maps would not do that, or it could be inteligent enough to work between services.
(it works for me at the moment too)

Thanks for trying, Barry...still no dice. The largest file I've worked
with is 9Kb, so I can't imagine I've hit the 100Mb cap.
It's incredibly frustrating that this seems to be working for you and
Mike. Do you mind if I ask you both for some information about your
location/tech specs so I can try to find a common thread?
Oops...apparently Pamela in the GGeoXML problems thread is reporting
that Google's GGeoXML servers are having problems, and that this is
probably the cause. Nelsong, have you read that thread?

Sorry but this problem is not resolved. I'm having exactly the same
problem with dozens of KML files that have been working up until
today.
E.g.http://shipwatcher.com/GBQM.kml is a fairly simple file showing
the current location of a well known ship. It works well in Google
Earth, it worked fine yesterday. But now it doesn't work in Google
maps at all.
I understand it's a problem with Google's servers. I can't move the
KML files elsewhere - they're dynamically updated every hour. (Ships
don't stand still :) ).
Would someone please tell me whereabouts in google groups I can
monitor to know when this problem is fixed?

I have the same problem with some kml loading
I have a dynamic php script that generate .kml files.
Under this weekend this has become very shaky, nothing on my side has
been changed.
The GGeoXML respond but only show it on the map randomly, it works
good in googleearth.
And it worked good last week.

Sorry I appear to be jumping in to this discussion a little late but I
am still having trouble with accessing my KML/KMZ files with Google
Maps. I was able to access them a week ago but no luck over the last
couple of days. The only difference that I can see between the other
posts in this thread and mine is that I am testing my code locally
(http://localhost) and accessing the kml files through
googlepages.com.
any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
