We've released a new version of Mapstraction today, which includes support for Time Navigation. This gives Google Maps support for Time similar to Google Earth.
If you haven't seen Mapstraction before, it's an open source "abstraction layer" on the major mappings apis, to enable switching from one to another as smooth as possible. It currently supports Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Map24, Multimap, and OpenStreetMap.
Hi Mikel-- Looks potentially like good stuff, but I'm getting an Error:Control is not defined in FF on Mac, which breaks the sliders completely. Let me know if you fix that. - pamela

Hi Mikel-- It's working now, nice work! Not sure why I was getting an error previously. It'd be pretty neat if you could get a tooltip on those sliders with the time info on them, to make it easier to see what you're doing.
