Just a few things to know before you post to the group:
- There are some issues with the spam filtering on new topics posted to the group through the web interface. A portion of messages are marked as possible spam and require moderator approval before posting. So, if you post through the web interface and do not see your message immediately, please be patient and wait at least 12 hours before attempting to post again (especially if you're posting at night, PST). Or, alternatively, send your message by email to: Google-Maps-API@googlegroups.com
- Many issues/questions are common and have been answered before. Do a search in the forum for your question/error (e.g. "removing markers" or "error: a has no properties"), and you're likely to find threads with relevant answers. Also, check the Google Maps API documentation, frequently asked questions, and terms of use.
--------------------------------------------
If you're reporting an error with your webpage:
- Please post a link to your code online. Pasting code is fine to highlight the section you've got questions about, but most people will not debug the problem unless you provide a URL to the code online. Upload to Google Pages if you're worried about uploading to your company's server or if you have no server.
- Please describe the OS and browser version that you're experiencing errors in (e.g. Mac, Safari)
- If you're new to debugging JavaScript, consider using Firefox's Error Console (under Tools menu) or for more extensive debugging, download the Firebug plug-in for Firefox. If you don't understand the meaning of the error in the console, report it in your post.
I will be looking through the posts for the common coding errors that result from errors in the sample code or failures of the documentation to detail the proper way to do something.
If there are particular issues that you'd like addressed/prioritized, please post them (in a new thread, preferably, to keep this one short and to the point).
> Need help with an error in your code? If so, please provide a link to > your page.
Or even:
"If you think you have an error in your code or even the API itself, please provide a link to your page with details of how to reproduce the problem. Don't post code in the Group."

. I just want to know how you got email address with @google.com. I always wanted email address n...@google.com. Will you please sign up on my behalf and send password, login page url to me?
I will show it to everyone to impress. I will be superstar.
In return, I will give you one gmail invite, free.
Hi Pamela, I have had a look around for recent threads discussing ideas for improvement... i cant find anything recent. am i being blind?
I have a specific query which is. is there a road map for development. which us developers can use to gauge roughly how long we have to wait till certain functionality is available? or a forum to suggest improvements/additions which would make the api more useful? didnt wanna start a thread for it, but I need to use the marker manager in an app im developing but until theres a remove marker function it doesnt really do it for me. Specifically for me now could you give any info about if/when this might arrive?
With regard the welcome message, I didnt have a clue what you were talking about. It only occurs on the 'home' section of the group pages.. there isnt any way to display on which ever page you first enter the group through is there? I for one never come via the google- maps-api group I click through to an article specifically from an rss feed. Therefore I miss the benefit of such welcome messages.

Hi Vince, I don't have any way of getting that welcome message on the discussions page. The hope is that newbies are linked to the group from the GMaps Documentation page, and that they are greeted with the welcome message, and that non- newbies are familiar with our ways here.
Re the road map, that's a valid question. Google generally doesn't pre- announce feature additions to the API. If we did, and developers started building with the assumption such features would exist, but then we were unable to release the features on schedule/ever, then developers would be quite angry. It seems better that you develop based on what you know to absolutely exist now.
I am actively monitoring the group and sending in the most common bugs/ features requests (such as the MarkerManager remove) . I'll update the group when I can re the status of such requests, but often I can't say anything official for reasons I gave above.
If you'd like to discuss bugs/feature requests, just start a new thread. I try and read every message. Thanks for the feedback. -Pamela

I do think that the welcome message "If you think there is an error in your code or even the API itself..." would be much more useful on the "Start a new discussion" page, if that is at all possible.
How do I see the topics I've starred? In the previous web interface I could click something like 'My starred topics' and there would also be a list of recent activity in the topics I had starred. I can still see the stars next to the threads, but how do I access the ones I have starred??

Click 'Favorites' in the top right navigation bar, it seems to list stared topics from all groups.

OK maybe it should be don't ONLY paste code, just always include a link to the map. (in fact this is what is said in the first message!)
There are lots of valid reasons to post code, eg server side code, a bit of code to highlight where you think the problem is, a bit of code you are contributing (eg a fix for a page - if simple then can just be the fixed line rather than a whole fixed page)
But long experience of this group has shown that JUST a message of code (or worse just a snippet), unless it's a very simple mistake (that the mind's Javascript parser can see) its very easy to miss something else relevent, these is so much more to creating a successful web page than just code.
