Computer Specification

* Acer Aspire 9301
* AMD Turion MK 36 (64 bit)
* 1GB DDR2 RAM (64MB shared with graphics)
* nVidia G0 6100 (using 9755 driver)
* Mandriva 2007.1 (Spring) PowerPack64/One 64

Issue - No 3D Desktop
When I use plain KDE it's fast, looks good, but Picasa does not do a
full screen slide show (only small in the middle of screen). This is
how Picasa has always worked for me, so no surprise there, and Google
Earth works great.
Issue - Metisse
I like metisse! It's quite fast for what it does and some of the GUI
features are quite innovatibe and productive. Picasa displays my slide
shows in full resolution, full screen, so it was a surprise. Google
Earth will not start saying that my computer has an unknown graphics
card. The mouse pointer stays busy all of the time (hourglass): this
is mentioned in another thread - KDE One 2007.1 (Spring) 64 Bit - Busy
Pointer - Constant
Issue - Beryl or Compiz with Native support
Beryl seems noticably faster than Compiz, but both of them do not show
any kind of a slide show in Picasa when I use Native support: just a
black screen. Beryl with either native or Xgl never shows the desktop
properly: it's white with no icons.
Issue - Beryl or Compiz with Xgl
This allows for Google Earth to work and gives a small Picasa slide
show on PowerPack64: on One 64 it gave a full screen, low resolution
slide show.

Question

1. Is this normal?

Interesting. To summarize:

plain KDE:
Picasa normal, but slide show small in middle of screen.
Google Earth great.

Metisse:
Picasa displays slide shows in full resolution, full screen!
Google Earth will not start, says "unknown graphics card"

Beryl or Compiz with Native support

Picasa: slide show is all black, no pictures

Beryl or Compiz with Xgl on PowerPack64:
Picasa: slide show works but is small (like on plain KDE)
Google Earth ok

Beryl or Compiz with Xgl on One64:
Picasa: slide show full screen, but low resolution
Google Earth ok

Thanks for trying out those combinations, I'll try to test those here.
The next version of Picasa for Linuxought to be a little less
sensitive to 3D settings.

Please post the Google Earth problems to the Google Earth for Linux
discussion list,
