Is there anyway to make the font sizes larger? They're barely readable
on my system. Even the menu bar fonts are smaller than my other
applications.

Ditto. I have to put my nose up to the screen to make it out. Even
then, some of the text is too fragmented to read. Let's hope somebody
who 'knows how' responds.

So nobody knows how to do this yet? It's really difficult having such
tiny menu and message fonts.

You need to edit Picasa's WINE registry to tell it your monitor DPI.

It's found at /home/<your home directory>/.picasa/system.reg

For larger fonts change the value on the line:
"LogPixels"=dword:00000060

to something larger (for example)
"LogPixels"=dword:00000090

Good tip, it really works! We should add this to the Picasa FAQ
and also update winecfg to let you set this more easily.

It looks like this tip is documented in Codeweaver's troubleshooting
doc
page, I should get more familiar with it.

(There's another option mentioned there that only affects system menus.
That's less useful, but for the curious, that option is to edit
~/.picasa/drive_c/windows/win.ini
and add a section like

[Desktop]
menufontsize=12

and adjust the number 12 to taste. But that's not especially
satisfying.)

I've filed an enhancement request against wine here:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5577

Glad it worked for Brian, but my fonts are still tiny. I'm using
fvwm95, not KDE or gnome, if that makes any difference.

It doesn't always work, unfortunately. Any idea what it works for any why?

No, unfortunately :-( That works, but it's the fonts in the
subdirectory list, internal menus and filenames that are miserably tiny,
especially when combined with the light-gray-on-white color scheme.
