Not sure if this is the right area to raise this, but has anyone else
noted a recent strong increase in the amount of spam in the individual
stock "Discussions" sections?

I used to regularly peruse the info on these pages, because the google
setup normally has all the information that I am looking for on an
equity, and the discussions are often informational as well as
entertaining.

But many of my regular symbols are now filled only with spam. I do
report it as much as possible, but is that really effective? Should I
just give up and look for actual discussion somewhere else?

If so, Where?

Thanks,

Erskie

I agree, seems to be getting much worse. Why have it if it is not a
viable tool?
I tried to submit it to the Help section of Google, see what happens.

It has got so bad for us that we no longer use the Google Finance
boards - We just go to a competitor and no,I aint saying which one as
I do not want to be accused of Spamming

I really hope google understands the severity of this issue. I really
used to like google finance, too.

You are losing contributors VERY VERY FAST!!! You better do
something. You need moderators or something else.

I concur-- Google needs to do some basic automatic filtering of
messages with known spam links, multiple identical copies of messages
posted to the same and/or different stocks, ban users who violate TOS
with multiple spam, respond to message reporting by users. For a very
brief time the groups were useful, and Google is going to lose this
resource soon if it can't clean it up.

Why aren't they listening? This has become a HUGE problem in all
groups lately. I came to google finance groups because they were
mostly spam free. Now there are so many it makes it impossible to
use. Googles "Help" says they created these groups for "spam-free"
discussions. Yet they do nothing when reported. Google's "Help" says
they investigate every reported spam but I don't see that happening.
In other words, Google is lying to us all!!!

Please tell me somehow - I would like to know where to go. Reporting
all the spam is now impossible - there is just too much

Something has to be done, as an otherwise excellent site is becoming
unusable. Not like google but very disappointing.

Google, you may as well just get rid of 'Discussions', because there's
nothing useful there anymore...just crap...I mean spam.

I agree. In particular the AAPL discussions have been hijacked by a
user called Buddy, he spews hateful venom and attacks everyone with an
endless string of foul adjectives. He has rendered the discussion of
any AAPL topic useless. I gave up reading them several weeks ago but
just visited today only to see that the problem has gotten worse. He
was reported many months ago but GOOGLE (apparently) does nothing.

Google should be embarrassed about this. They charge for advertising,
but allow spammers to run free. I have reported posts as SPAM until I
just don't care anymore. I'm getting ready to write off this site.
There are plenty of others that don't SPAM me.

I finally just quit using google finance. I hopped over to the
Morningstar.com and love it. The free account is all I need to track
what I want and view things how I want. I have no business relation
to Morningstar.... I just like the site. I would have never even
checked it out if it weren't for Google's complete lack of response in
regards to the spam. Funny thing... morningstar does not even have
discussion boards and I still like it better to not come back. I will
be checking out other stock discussion areas soon and report back here
on the ones that actually control spam and trolls...

I keep coming back here thinking things will get fixed and maybe I
will come back.... but I doubt it
