Sure could use a version supporting this. Is it even being worked on?
I've seem threads all over about it for the past year but never a word
that it's being worked on.

I couldn't agree more. Is anyone from Google listening. I'm completely
LOST without Google Desktop search and am, literally, spending hours
trying to search for materials that I used to be able to find (on an
OLD computer), in a matter of seconds.

As I wrote in another thread here:
Well, if search is all you want, lots of people like Copernic
Desktop
Search: http://www.copernic.com/
It does work with Vista x64, but it only does search -- no
widgets.
However, while it does come in a "free" version, the features
in the
"free" version may or may not be enough for you. For more
info, see:
http://www.copernic.com/en/products/desktop-search/index.html
I have no connection to the Copernic folks, other than as a user of
their free version.

Vote number 7 for Vista x64 version of Google Desktop. I gave in to
using Vista Sidebar which isn't bad, but my life revolves around
Google apps and I since I am a loyal user of their products, I would
hope they would resolve this. Not the same without.

Vote #11 Baffled by why Vista 64bit support was removed. Most of the
new Sony VAIOs ship with Vista 64bit as standard now. Please Google,
let us know what is going on.
here's a way to get google desktop onto 64bit systems...I'm not yet
sure if they're are any lost features
Download and SAVE Google Desktop installer (googledesktopsetup.exe) to
your desktop.
START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on
cmd.exe above under programs and select Run as Administrator | the cmd
prompt ("DOS") screen appears - type the following as it appears - and
hit enter after each line -
Code:
cd %userprofile%\desktop
googledesktopsetup /force
You will probably be notified by Windows Defender about two entries -
select permit for each and apply actions.
You should now have Google Desktop on your system.
Thanks tyrak. It is useful information but what me and I imagine most
people here are getting at, is that although you can force an install,
Google Desktop does not still support Vista 64 and the forced install
still encounters various problems to the extent that it is better
being without it until those issues have been resolved. I love Google
products and use most of the various online apps but the lack of Vista
64 support is my only gripe. Fingers crossed someone from the Google
Desktop team is reading these posts and reconsidering the position on
Vista 64 support.

Vote #18, although I hope in reality the vote count is far higher...
I've only been on Vista 64 for two days, and I'm already missing my
Google Gadgets. :-(
