Hi all, Google Desktop Guide Chris and I are happy to announce Google
Desktop 5.5!
>From a day to day perspective, we're well aware of all the issues
you've been reporting, and we've been diligently taking notes and
passing them on to the rest of the team. This launch should address
quite a few of the issues you've been reporting in this group.
Launch details on the Google Desktop blog:

We even made the main Google Blog:

Notes on the launch and how it'll affect some of your commonly
reported problems:
* A longstanding user request - the ability for Google Desktop to
better keep track of your moved Outlook mail, has been integrated into
this version! Move and archive away! Google Desktop now indexes your
Outlook mail better than ever. I was pleased to see this version index
many more email than the previous versions ever had.
Further, your IMAP based mail can now display in your email gadget! In
prior versions, Desktop would only display your Gmail, and POP based
Client mail in your sidebar.
* DLL related errors in Vista - We've investigated and fixed what was
causing this issue. Please install the newer version and let us know
if they persist.
* Google Desktop Gadgets on iGoogle - If you use iGoogle, you can now
embed Desktop gadgets on your iGoogle homepage. This includes the
"clienty" gadgets like media player or photos gadgets.
* You can also now more easily install Google Desktop without indexing
or other features enabled. So those of you that wanted to use Desktop
exclusively as a gadgets platform, go on and install! :)
* Performance indexing Excel files - We were able to repro and fix a
variety of Excel issues. If you've had performance trouble with Excel
files, please try this new version.
* UI changes: The QSB has a new look, and we've added a new "gadgets"
button icon in the taskbar. It also works faster
In addition to this, we've implemented a variety of performance and
bug fixes. If you've had trouble with an earlier version, we recommend
you install this newer version to see if it resolves the issue.
