Error Messages

I'm seeing the error "Could not connect to MS Outlook error - 2147319779, code 0."

Thanks to olbj's post here, the following steps (borrowed from Plaxo's forum) have been found to resolve the above error message for many users:

1. Close Outlook.
2. Click on the windows button (extreme left bottom corner of the taskbar).
3. Click on 'Run'.
4. In the ‘Open’ box, type 'regedit' (without the quotes).
5. Click on the 'OK' button.
6. In the 'Registry Editor' window, click on the '+' sign next to 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT'.
7. Search for the 'TypeLib' entry under 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT' registry key.
Note: Keep pressing the ‘T’ key on your keyboard until you find out the entry 'TypeLib'.

8. Expand (Click on the '+' sign) the 'TypeLib' entry.
9. Under 'TypeLib' search for the entry '{00062FFF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}' and expand it by clicking on the '+' sign.
10. You should find an entry with the number '9.3'.
11. Right click on the entry '9.3' and choose 'Rename'.

12. Rename the entry from ‘9.3’ to "DoNotUseThis9.3".
Note: If you do not find the 'TypeLib' entry in step #9 above, do not rename any other entry.
13. Close 'Registry Editor' window.

I'm receiving the error "Google Calendar Sync: Error syncing your calendar. Error code: 1008, -2147352567"

For more information about this message, please see our Help Center article Google Calendar Sync: Error 1008.

I'm receiving this error: "Some of your Outlook appointments could not be loaded. Sync is interrupted in order to prevent potential data loss."

This issue can be resolved by taking manual action on these events. To do so, please follow the steps below:

1. Open your calendar in Microsoft Outlook.
2. Select "View by Category." (Main Menu > View > Arrange By > Current View > By Category)
3. You'll see a list of events (if the events are collapsed in categories, you can expand them by clicking the "+" sign). Using the icons to the left of each event, find events that have a "warning" icon (i.e. crossing swords), events that don't have a start date or end date, or events which have an end date before the start date.
4. Double-click on each problematic event to resolve the problem or delete the problematic events.

Google Calendar Sync fails with an error message or Outlook crashes.

If you're experiencing either of these issues and are using a supported operating system and Microsoft Outlook version, please check the Help Center Known Issues page.

If your question can't be answered by browsing or searching the Help Center, try searching this forum. *Enter search terms into box on top right. If you find a thread that matches your issue, just jump in and post your report. If you're unable to locate an existing conversation that resembles what you're experiencing, start a new thread. Please try to be descriptive when describing the issue. It's also helpful to include your operating system and Outlook version in your post.

Google Calendar Sync reports "You seem to have outdated time zone information. Please run Windows Update."

This error message will appear when your Microsoft Windows Operating System doesn't have the latest time zone updates. Normally these updates are auto-installed as part of a Windows Update.

If the updates above don't resolve your issue, you may want to try manually restoring missing time zone definitions by following the instructions here.

Other Issues

I'm using Live Search Maps Add-in for Outlook and my events aren't syncing.

Thanks to mdivrx's findings here, we've learned that Live Search Maps Add-in for Outlook prevents Google Calendar Sync from working successfully. We're looking into this behavior further and hope to be compatible with this set-up soon.

I was using 1-way sync before the update to 0.9.3.2, but now my events are syncing in another direction.

The latest Google Calendar Sync update may have caused your sync settings to change. Please make sure to check your Google Calendar Sync options and set the sync direction to your desired preference. Once you reset your sync preference, your events will sync as intended. Future updates to Google Calendar Sync will save your sync settings as expected. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

My events' privacy settings aren't preserved when syncing.

Currently, when you're syncing events between Microsoft Outlook and Google Calendar, individual events will adopt the default privacy setting in each of these calendars. If you'd like your events to remain private, please be sure that both calendar programs are set to your desired privacy settings.

For more information about making your Google Calendar private, please see our Help Center at http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=37085

For further assistance with privacy settings in Outlook, please consult Microsoft’s help resources.

How do I uninstall Google Calendar Sync?

If you’d like to remove Google Calendar Sync from your computer, you can do so by following the steps below:

1. Open the Start menu.
2. Select “Control Panel.”
3. Open “Add or Remove Programs.”
4. Locate Google Calendar Sync and click the “Remove” button.
5. Click “Uninstall” to confirm that you’d like to remove Google Calendar Sync.

Please keep in mind that it’s not possible to reverse your calendars to their previous state, prior to syncing with Google Calendar Sync.

Can I sync events from secondary calendars?

No, it's not possible to sync events on secondary calendars at this time. Google Calendar Sync will sync only events from your primary Google Calendar (first one in your list) and your default Microsoft Outlook calendar. If you've scheduled events on a secondary calendar in Google Calendar that you'd like to sync with your Microsoft Outlook Calendar, you can either move the event to your primary calendar or export your entire secondary calendar and import the events to your primary calendar.

Compatibility

Google Calendar Sync isn't working with Windows XP 64-bit Edition.

Please be informed that Windows XP 64-bit Edition isn’t compatible with Google Calendar Sync at this time.

The team here is definitely aware of the strong desire to use this feature and we're keeping track of all reports and requests as we work to improve Google Calendar Sync.

I'm currently using a third-party sync application to sync between Microsoft Outlook and Google Calendar. Can I continue to use this third-party application AND Google Calendar Sync?

We understand that many people like to stay connected with various calendar applications. Unfortunately, it's not recommended to use Google Calendar Sync when using third-party sync applications that sync between Microsoft Outlook and Google Calendar. Please be aware that doing so may result in duplicated events or deleted data.

If you're currently using a product that syncs between Outlook and Google Calendar, please do the following before installing Google Calendar Sync:

  1. Disable or uninstall the third-party sync software.
  2. Determine which calendar (Outlook or Google Calendar) contains the majority of your reference information (i.e. event properties, guests, and reminder information). This is your "main" calendar.
  3. Once you've designated your main calendar, clear the data from your other calendar. (For example, if Google Calendar was your "main" calendar, delete the event data from your Outlook calendar.)
  4. Install and run Google Calendar Sync. Choose "1-way sync" from your "main" calendar to the other (you'll be able to change sync direction later).
  5. Perform synchronization. Your events will appear in both Google Calendar and Outlook once again.

Please keep in mind that you can create a back-up copy of your Google Calendar events by exporting your calendar data. For detailed steps, see Export your calendar data.

Does Google Calendar Sync work with Google Apps?
