Can I use the Feed API in a Google Gadget?

Pretty simple question I think? As long as I include the Google brand
somewhere in the gadget is it OK? (and pass my API key in my queries)

I am a gadget developer and have spent the last month going through
nothing but grief with the iGoogle version of the feed reader in JSON.
Since the Feed API now gives me raw access to the feed data (in JSON
format over using one of the pre-built solutions) I would like to drop
the constantly breaking functionality with the iGoogle one once and
for all. Especially now since they are trying to map it into Shindig
and other open social containers it makes things even worse. If I can
use this API instead I will convert all my gadgets over to use a more
reliable API for this as it is way too time consuming always fixing my
gadgets every time the gadgets teams messes with the API. I have
tested this API on my site and it seems more reliable then the iGoogle
version (plus theirs does not work with type=url gadgets or in the
sandbox properly either) and I believe it would take less time to
convert all my gadgets over to this API then to keep fixing them all
summer long as they continue to "tweak" the new iGoogle/Open Social
API and container.

Google (Mark, Ben) can you please advise? If this is not OK then I
have my own back end services and API I can use instead, but would
prefer the Google one. It seems a bit faster then mine and I would
like to include the feed search functionality also.

Thanks in advance,

Hey Vision Jinx --

Yep, it's totally fine to use our API in a gadget.  You don't even need to use your API key.  If you need any help with it, let us know.  I think we already have a few examples of gadgets using the Feed API.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Hey Ben,

Thanks a lot!!! That's great news! :-) But I have one more question
for you now...

Has Google done anything recently in the way they encode their JSONP
data? I knew Google (along with my server side API also) converts
certain things to hex or ascii equiv to prevent code injections etc,
but for some reason just recently I have been noticing weird things
with some feeds where the HTML encoding seems to have changed and my
HTML stripping functions (or something) does not seem to be properly
stripping HTML anymore.

I get results like

br p a href

It is giving the tags without the <>

Has something changed on the Google end as I have not made any changes
to that aspect of my code and it always seemed to work well (over the
last 6 weeks) with all the testing I had done till recently. I had
made one small change to the way the HTML pop up view works but that
should not have caused this issue since I am not stripping HTML there.
(I will check that section again, but thought I would ask you too if
something changed on your end)

Many thanks again!

Could you provide an example feed that you requested?

May I ask if someone can post a simple Hello World Example for the
Google Translate API?

I know you need a developer key, and I have one around here somewhere but.

But just a JavaScript call to Translate "Hello World" into the Target
Language of German, French, Italian or Spanish.

Thank you. I have so many projects going on I get confused once in a
while; I'm on the Papervision3D project and also trying to keep tabs on
this project as well as flexcoders.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay, I had trouble finding
this thread again. The subject got changed. The problem I was having
seemed to have resolved its self. I haven't seen it happening today at
all. I am not sure if it was a result of broken feeds or what exactly
but I will make sure to better examine the source feed and provide a
link it if happens again. Thanks again,

Cheers!
