Google dictionary

Is there an API or something for using the dictionary that can be
found on Google translate page?

What dictionary are you talking about?  If you're asking whether we have a Dictionary API, the answer is no.  However, we have an issue tracker where you can vote for issues (http://code.google.com/p/google-ajax-apis/issues/list).

I am sorry to say that the answer is no; we do not have an API for the dictionary.

No problem. Is it possible to send a query in this form and then
harvest the results: http://translate.google.com/translate_dict?q=mother&hl=en&langpair=en%7Cfr

Or is it against Google policy?

Sorry, I don't know the terms of service for translate.  However, maybe you should check out the FAQ (http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/faq_translation.html).

I think in general we don't allow scraping (what you're asking to do), but check the FAQ and terms of service listed on the link I sent you.

Anyone interested in this feature, do the following:
1)
Go here:
http://code.google.com/p/google-ajax-apis/issues/list?updated=16&ts=1216872856

2)
Where it says Search OPEN ISSUES, type DICTIONARY, when the only match
comes up, click the star to the LEFT

3)
Post a nice message.

This helps let it be known to open up the API for programmers.
