So it says in my Gmail account. Guess we just have to trust them
because it's transparent to users.

Not that I really needed it, I already have one of the best A/V's out
there.

I feel safe in the hands of a google-made A/V.

Plus, if it isn't transparent working around it for evil virus-makers
would be easier.

It is indeed quite transparent, which on one hand is good because it
doesn't distract the user with company logos and assurances, but on
the other hand might leave users with a sense of lack of security that
such logos and big words bring.

To see it in action, attach a file to an email. You'll see the text
next to the file going saying "Scanning..." temporarily.

I have tried to 'see' the av scan working when sending an attachment
but no indication in my gmail page :(

I seriously doubt that it's "google made." Chances are, they licensed
it from someone else.

Here's another way to see it in action:

- Send an email with a big attachment (say more than 1mb) to your
Gmail account from somewhere else.
- Now go in your Gmail account and open that email. Notice how the
text next to the assignment first says "Scanning" and then turns into
a download link.

Nope, no indication in mine either.  It would be nice to have a single line at the bottom of the page... something like,... "Virus-scanned by GScan"

FYI... in the past it was the case that if you did not have the "New
Features" link at the top of your GMail web interface then you did not
have the new features. I received my "New! Virus protection and more"
link shortly after Fanis made the first announcement in this forum. I
appreciate his diligence to let us know new features are here/on the
way, and his suggested methods to see it in action.

I see the "Virus-scanned by GScan" as a double-edged sword. I would
feel some extra confidence by seeing it, but would also be slightly
annoyed at it (I'm bothered by stuff being added to my messages that I
didn't personally write).

It's quite possible therefore that the antivirus scan feature is not
introduced universally? I for one have no new link in my gmail page to
say that my gmail now has the av feature. And I still didn't see any
'scanning' indication when carrying out the suggested (by Fanis) larger
attachment test. Ah well, it's all still beta and who knows how Gmail
will look when it finalises.

As with all new features in Gmail the anti-virus scanning feature is
being rolled out in a phased manner. You will know you got it when the
"New! Virus protection and more" link appears in your New features area.

Clarification: after some more testing, it seems that there is no
indication of scanning attachments when composing a new email.
However, when replying to an email, right after you click Send you see
your reply added to the thread, and the attachment being "scanned"
before displaying the Download link.

I may have gotten mixed up and thought I was composing an email when I
reported seeing it originally. My apologies for the confusion.
