I got the messages from Inbox from a webmail account successfully in a
newly created lable in the gmail acoount. The webmail supports pop3
and SMTP both. I did not know how to get the sent mail folder from the
web mail into gmail. I copied all the sent mails into the Inbox on the
webmail and again feteched the messages into Gmail. But all of these
landed in spam on gmail. Now they will be deleted from spam after 1
month. I need to preserve these messages.

How to preserver these messages?:
Are there better ways to get the sent folder messages from the
webmail?

The way you did it is the only/best way to get them, so there is no
problem there. GMail automatically marked them as spam because it
recognized the from address as yours but was retrieving them from
somewhere like you received them. It basically thinks they were
spoofed.

Go into the Spam label and select all these newly retrieved messages
(if you had Mail Fetcher label them when you pulled them, then that
label will show in the spam view), then select "Not Spam" from the
More Actions, or use the "Not Spam" button. This will push them all
out of Spam and into Inbox. They will also still have any labels you
had applied to them. If you've added the address these were sent from
to your Contacts list as one of your e-mail addresses (likely since
you set it up in Fetcher you made it a "Custom From") then GMail will
also label them as Sent Mail, so you'll automatically have them there.

There's a help Center Article on just that:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=8301&topic=12877

But in summarization, you have to export your contacts from the other provider:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12118&topic=12877

Then you can import them to GMail.
