Is there anyway to prevent Gmail from saving multiple copies of drafts
in Trash when using Thunderbird?

I have Thunderbird set to auto-save a draft every 2 minutes if an edit
had been made and specified [Gmail]/Drafts folder for Drafts. It
saved multiple copies there (and All Mail) and then after sending the
email, most of the copies remain in Drafts (and All Mail). This does
not happen with EUMX IMAP mail.
