There have been a lot of posts about missing 'Themes' tab in Gmail
Settings. Thank you to those who have posted and helped clarify why
themes may be missing in certain accounts.
To clear things up, to use themes, you will need to be using the newer
version of Gmail on Internet Explorer 7.0+, Mozilla Firefox 2.0+,
Safari 3.0+, or Google Chrome.
You *won't* be able to select or change your Gmail theme at this time
if :
- if you're using the older version of Gmail on any of the above
browsers
- you're using Internet Explorer 6.0, or other browsers and versions
that aren't included above
- if you're a Google Apps user
If you don't see the 'Themes' tab in your Gmail Settings, you won't be
able to set themes in Gmail at this time.
Thanks for your understanding,
Iris

Hi Teal
I love the Beach Theme but I never see it updating itself according to
time of day. If I want to change I have to go to "My Account" and
resave (without changing location) then it will come back with a true
picture. I have not found this query in any other discussion.
Regards
Bel Air

Hello, I have used my account at another sorce and I have themes and
at home I don't, I understand that this works on Internet Explorer 7,
but will it be coming out for older versions anytime soon?

I recently activated the Space/Planet theme, and about a week or two
after that I activated the "Mark as Read Button" and the "Superstars"
Labs. Now, when I log on, my theme is gone, my labs are gone, I have
no themes tab on my settings page, and I have no Labs links in the top
right corner. I've been using Safari 3.0 or IE 7 the entire time, and
I have the newer version of Gmail. This is really annoying, and I was
wondering:
1) if anyone else has had this problem
2) how and why did this happen
3) how can this problem be fixed
As I said before, I don't have access to either the Labs or Themes, so
I'm unable to experiment and find the bug. My sister recently
activated a theme (I think it's Cherry Blossom, it's pink and white
with hearts) and her account works perfectly, BUT she also has no Labs
link in the upper right corner.
I don't know what happened or why, but if anyone has any insight I
would be glad to hear from you.

It's OK now, the problem was caused by the incorrect version of IE..
sorry for confusion.
But I still doesn't understand what is "the newer version of
Gmail"? :)

Here's the thing that really upsets me. I host my email through Gmail
for my domain, whatlizsaid.com. Yet we don't get themes even though
our email is identical. It kind of sucks because the people who
didn't pay for gmail get themes, and I'm paying for the custom domain,
but miss out on the Gmail perks.

Ditto here, too! I can understand how some organizations want their
email screens to remain consistent and show their logo, but there
should be a way for administrators to allow themes on their Google
Apps account.

I've been having this issue with 2 new domains I've added to Gmail -
no Themes tab - the only thing I can think of is that I had just
signed up for Google Labs testing, and a couple of days after that
Themes appeared. They are still there on my account, but the new
accounts are just like the old plain accounts before I signed my soul
away to Google Labs.

Hello Teal,
I now have been able to access tab/themes(thru Mozzila firefox) but do
not understand how come when I log back into my email it does not come
up in the "newer version".Then I saw a tip that said you are supposed
to "save" it afterwards. Okay so there was no place on the
themes page to click to save. So I went to file and not knowing what
else to do I clicked on save page. Then I totally shut down and
then started up again, went to email and it still did not come up with
my theme choice unless I clicked on the "newer version".
How do I make it stick so that my theme choice always comes up when I
log into my email? Or is that just not possible?
My complaint is that if I have to click "newer version" everytime,
what is the use? My enjoyment level is just not there
if I have to do this every time. Can you help me because I am a baby
user. Do not overestimate my knowledge level!
If you respond help me by explaining as if to a three year old, though
I am 54.

Hi, Teal, ok I have a couple questions. FIrst of all I do have the
newer version of gmail, but I am unsure of which browser I have. The
Lab tabs do not show up in my Settings and I am kind of bummed about
it. Do you have any suggestions?

Still waiting for an official Google response on the availability of
the themes (and may I add in to that "Labs" as well?) feature for
Google Apps users.
