Subject: Error 700
Hi,

just to let you know: Accessing recent mails in my account under the
label Perl gives the following Error:
Oops… the system encountered a problem (#700)

Mails under different labels do not seem to be affected.

My user name is malte.ubl

Cheers
Malte

I too am having this same oops error code and it seems to occur only
when attempting to read messages under my "Gmail-Users" label.  It
happens with both IE6 and Firefox 2.

Some extra info:
Reading those messages in HTML mode works. I'm on FF3.

I have this exact same problem, just started a couple days ago. It
only happens to mail from one particular mailing list. Thinking it was
label related, I deleted the label and removed the filter, but the
problem persists with the messages even if they're left in the Inbox.

Reading via IMAP or via the Simple HTML view works fine, but the
normal Javascript based UI just throws endless #700s.

I also started having this problem when reading certain messages.  I
click on the message and then get and error that reads "Oops… the
system encountered a problem (#700)".  I'm using Firefox 3.0.1 on
OSX.  I haven't seen it on a message in my inbox yet, but have seen it
when trying to read messages sent to multiple mailing lists for which
I have filters to skip the inbox and label.  Like you, if I switch to
simple HTML view I can read those messages without error.

You should be able to read them if you use the "older version", link
in the upper right of the Gmail page.  It is not necessary to use
basic HTML.

Except you have to switch to "older version" over and over again.
Switching to HTML sticks.

I've tried this with three different browsers, two different OSs (not
including Windows).

Turning Labs off doesn't work.

Only "older version" or HTML mode works.

And the odd thing is that these are fairly ordinary looking text mode
messages, and only under a single tag for me.

This is annoying, repeatable, and getting to be a week old.  Time for
some Google guidance.

What's causing this, and what should users expect to see happen about
it?

My assumption is that "older version" will only work until there is a
newer "new version" at which point we are screwed.

Are switches to "older version" getting logged somewhere so that it is
clear this is not an isolated problem with a particular version of
Firefox etc?

I would love to see a listing of what the error codes actually mean.
That would help us users do our own diagnostics while we wait for a
true fix.

(end rant)

I agree it would be nice to have some guidance on what's going on
here.

It's the same scenario for me: #700 error indefinitely on the "Newer
version" for just the set of messages that are archived and assigned a
specific label.  No problems with any other labels.  Fixed by
switching to the "Older version".  Been happening for a week now,
never had any problem before with that label, and unremarkable emails
under that email -- not even attachments!  Just plain text.

I'm getting this error on anything that comes through the SpamAssassin
mailing list.  It must be a header field that's being added by the
list software.  Perhaps one of these:

Received-SPF: neutral (athena.apache.org: local policy)
Delivered-To: mailing list [email address]

Google also adds a Received-SPF: and Delivered-To:, so perhaps the
duplication is confusing something.  Otherwise I don't see anything
suspicious.

I am also getting the 700 error message. Below are details:

* The original email (1) was forwarded to my gmail account (email 2).
I then forwarded email 2 (which I will call email 3). The recipient of
email 3 sent me a reply (email 4); this email caused the problem and I
now cannot view any of emails 2, 3 or 4
* I get the error in Chrome, IE 7.0, Firefox 3.0
* Is happening with a conversation without any label
* Error is exactly the same in the old version
