On July 6th I lost all email in my inbox. This account is several
years old and had thousands of emails. I continue to receive new
emails but everything that was stored is gone.
I have searched for similar messages and found a few people who have
had similar problems recently but no suggestions were posted how to
recover the lost mail.
Can a Gmail tech support person please look into this?

Exactly the same thing happened to me on July 9th. Google sent me a
slightly patronising email about whether I had checked "all mail" and
tried searching for messages. But the giveaway is the "You are using
0% of your ...MB". Keep us all posted on what happens.

https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=8256 You can get to a Contact Us form by clicking on that link.
I've seen a lot posts from people with this problem. If enough people
contact Gmail with this issue then they will have to do something
about this, because it seems to be some bug in the memory system.
One thing I've noticed is the people who have lost all their memory
seemed to have had their accounts for a long time and had "thousands"
of messages in their inboxes. This memory problem seems to occur when
someone exceeds a certain amount of memory. To anyone who is worried
about this possibly happening to them, regularly go through and delete
any and all unnecessary emails, and try to keep your inbox as empty as
possible. In the meantime, hopefully Gmail will fix this problem.

That may not resolve the issue ... but may go some way in trying to
understand why and when it happens, and whether there's any "pattern"
to these missing messages. For example, were all affected users using
IMAP (or POP or mobile access) and travelling through airport or other
WiFi hotspots without having signed out of the GMail accounts
completely, including clearing their browser's cache and cookies? Or
how many users usually switch to different wireless or LAN networks
without actually logging out of their GMail accounts? Or whether any
user is simultaneously on third-party remote collaborative software.
One easy cause could be crooks on the same network (wireless or
network) using a derivative of sniffer programs like 'Hamster' ...
easily available on net ... and less secure webmail users falling prey
to them. There could also be other security-related issues like
installed malicious rootkits, variants of the Storm or similar worms,
or other similar malware on such users' machines.

Just an hour ago I too have lost all of my email. I have had this
account since July of 2006 and have never deleted a thing.
All of my inbox is gone.
Contacts.
"All Mail"
Drafts
Trash is empy
Sent mail
Chats
Its all gone.... And This is my Business Email. It is vitally
important that I am able to retrieve this information and to be ensure
this won't happen again.
Otherwise, I'll be heading to a different email host.

I had the same issue today, but with a bit of a twist: When I tried
to log in, I got a message saying that my username and password didn't
match. After a few tries to confirm I was entering both correctly, I
followed troubleshooting links which led to password reset information
being sent to my old hotmail account. I followed the instructions and
reset my password, using my original password. I was then able to log
in to my gmail account, but *everything* was gone. It's like a brand-
new account now. Nothing in any folders, no contacts at all, and I am
"...currently using 0MB of [my] 7045MB".
I have tried logging in and checking all of my folders repeatedly. I
have also tried logging in on different computers, and all the other
obvious things. I just reported the issue to Google through their
'help' page. So, I have two questions:
1. Has anyone had any success in retrieving any of their lost
information?
2. Should I expect to hear back from Google about this issue?
Thanks for any information, folks - let's hope they get this
straightened out!
