I have configured my gmail IMAP with Outlook 2007. It seems to be
working fine but for one issue...Chats
I have put a filter in gmail to label all chats as "GC's", I do get a
folder by the same name in my Outlook but amazingly it has only 8
chats out of the hundreds that I have on gmail. I tired the same thing
on a different m/c with Outlook 2003 but the same issue.
Can someone please help on this?
The surprising thing is that you see any chat transcripts at all. The
Gmail POP and IMAP servers normally filter them out, so that they are
not available. (For a while, you could get chats in IMAP, but it has
since been turned off.)

I don't understand why chats aren't available, this is annoying for
chat history, and also for chat messages that appear in the inbox (ie:
received while offline in google talk): there is currently no
notification via the imap client. :(

Why don't all my views and labels appear?
Not all of your default views in the Gmail web interface will appear
in your IMAP client at this time. We're working on making Gmail for
IMAP as much like the web interface as we can, but in the meantime,
you won't see views such as Chats in your client. (Note: while you can
add additional labels to hidden views to show up in your mail client,
this may result in distorted messages or other unforeseen
consequences.)

I don't think it is out of the question. I think the problem is that
the chat logs are not e-mail messages, and must be converted to
RFC2822 format for mail clients.
For a couple of months after IMAP was introduced, it was possible to
download chat logs, if you applied a label to them. The results were
not good. The headers were incomplete, the messages in the log were
out of sequence and the body structure was a mess. They are no longer
available, but at least it showed that it is possible.
