Subject: Removing "On behalf of"
Hi everyone,

Our team has heard loud and clear that you would like an option that
does not include the "Sender:" field for sending mail via your other
address. To address this problem, we're working on a long-term
solution that will allow you to send mail directly via your other ISP
from within the Gmail interface. Since the mail will be sent by your
other ISP, Gmail will not need to authenticate the mail using the
"Sender:" field, and your Gmail address will not appear in the message
headers.

This feature won't be ready for a little while yet, but I wanted to
let you know that it's on the way. In the meantime, I and the rest of
the Gmail team appreciate all your candid feedback as we strive to
improve Gmail.

Thanks for your patience,

Sarah

Hi again,

I saw that some of you observed the recent disappearance of the
'Sender' field. Unfortunately, the "solution" you're seeing here is a
bit of a red herring -- it's actually just a bug introduced in a
recent Gmail update that suppresses the 'Sender' field
unintentionally.  We'll be restoring the proper 'Sender' field
behavior soon... but when we do that, "On Behalf Of" will return again
for the time being.

I know it's annoying, and we're working to fix this "On Behalf Of"
behavior as soon as we can. As we've mentioned in our Help Center [1],
the reason we include your address in the headers at all is to help
prevent your mail from being flagged as spam by your recipients' email
services. For those who want the technical details, we use the
'Sender' field to be consistent with DomainKeys [2], a commonly used
email authentication mechanism. If we didn't do this, your messages
may get sent to your recipients' spam folders, which would be worse
than the annoyance the current implementation is causing.

The ideal (but non-trivial) fix is to enable you to send mail through
your own ISP, while still allowing you to use the Gmail user
interface. This is the feature I mentioned above, and the one we're
working on now.
