Subject: Internet Explorer issue: 'Operation aborted'
Hi everyone,

I've seen a few threads about receiving an 'Operation aborted' message
when you log in, which we're aware of and are currently investigating.
This is a problem specifically with Internet Explorer. There are a few
workarounds you can use:

- Access the older version of Gmail at http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1
- Use a different browser, like Mozilla Firefox or Safari.

If you'd like to help us investigate the problem, please respond with
as many answers to the following questions as you feel comfortable
providing:

- Does clearing your cache and cookies help?
- What operating system do you use? Examples: Windows XP, Windows
Vista.
- What specific version of IE are you using? I don't just mean IE7,
but the full details you can find by going to Help > About Internet
Explorer - it'll be something like 7.0.5730.13.
- Who is your Internet service provider (ISP)? Do you use a dial-up
modem, DSL, or a cable modem?
- Do you have any security software installed on your computer? Any
browser extensions or add-ons? Network firewall?
- Try using this procedure to run IE without any add-ons:
1. Click 'start' on the Windows taskbar.
2. Select 'All Programs.'
3. Select 'Accessories' > 'System Tools' > 'Internet Explorer (No Add-
ons)'.
4. Load the No Add-ons browser and visit http://mail.google.com.
5. Log in to your account.
6. Let us know if you're able to log in to your account using the No
Add-ons browser. If you were unable to log in to your account, please
provide the specific error message that you received when trying to
access your account.

Thanks so much for your patience!

Michelle

I'd like to suggest everyone to make sure it's not a network problem -
since when I'm on dialup, I experience these issues now and then.

When you're Gmailing, make sure your connection to the internet (or
your network) isn't clogged. If it is, then it'll happen.

Dial up Concentric (now XO)...but like I said, it happened at work
too.

Just what ever is in windows security shield. and Google toolbar (that
I'm aware of) I run spy-bot search and destroy from time to time, but
this started happening yesterday morning (about 24 hours ago) and I
hadn't run spybot in at least a week.

That worked Michelle.  But the only add ons I'm aware of is google
toolbar.  If you tell me how to get a full list, I'll let you know.

By the way, the operation aborted message pops up 5 or 10 seconds into
LOADING.......

Update!, the other posters are right, no add ons worked the first
time, but not the second time (my second time, we tried a different
account).  I can get regular IE (with add ons) to work one time, after
a full reboot.

To GG Blue,

I'm encountering the same problem and it began a couple of days ago.
Thought it was my computer but I realized others are having the same
error about the same time.   I also used another computer and same
error when an IE browser is used.

But the IMAP works when I use Outlook.

The temporary solution I'm doing is deleting my Temporary Internet
Files from the IE7 Internet Options.

Here's my reply to your question:

- Does clearing your cache and cookies help?

>>(HELPS BY DELETING TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES ONLY)

- What operating system do you use? Examples: Windows XP, Windows
Vista.

>>(WINDOWS VISTA HOME)

- What specific version of IE are you using? I don't just mean IE7,
but the full details you can find by going to Help > About Internet
Explorer - it'll be something like 7.0.5730.13.

>>(IE 7 VER 7.0.6000.16643)

- Who is your Internet service provider (ISP)? Do you use a dial-up
modem, DSL, or a cable modem?

>>(DSL - PLDT)

- Do you have any security software installed on your computer? Any
browser extensions or add-ons? Network firewall?

>>(NO BROWSER EXTENSIONS, NO ADD-ONS, WINDOWS DEFENDER, SYMANTEC NORTON INTERNET SECURITY)

Hope you can help.

Thanks.

Clearing the cache helps once, but after the initial login, I get the
same aborted message.

Windows XP

IE7 version 7.0.5730.11

dialup/netzero platinum

We have Trend Antivirus and Spy Sweeper

To log in, I have to delete browsing history EVERY time. This suggests
to me that maybe a defective cookie is being placed with each
login...?

Michelle, thanks very much for posting the alternate login URL above.
That worked for me.

I'm not sure if my problem is the same as everyone else's. My screen
stopped at "Loading..." on the usual big white background/screen.

However, in the bottom left corner of my browser (IE7) I get an error
symbol, and click on it I get this:

Line: 883
Char: 619
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0

Hi, Michelle -

Having the same problems as everyone else. In case my input helps,
here are answers to your questions:

> - Access the older version of Gmail at http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1

Worked for me.  Did it once, then closed the browser and tried again.
Worked the second time, too.

> - Use a different browser, like Mozilla Firefox or Safari.

Thanks - logged in via Firefox, no problem.

> - Does clearing your cache and cookies help?

Tried both - no.

Windows XP

7.0.5730.13.

Dial-up, Russia-on-line (ROL)

> - Do you have any security software installed on your computer? Any
> browser extensions or add-ons? Network firewall?

Using Norton 360, but that has been up and running for over a year.
No changes made.  The only add-on I use is the Google toolbar.

- Does clearing your cache and cookies help?
It does for only the first time. After that you have to clear the
Cache and cookies again and then RE-CYCLE the browser in order for it
to work again.

- What operating system do you use?
Windows XP SP2 Version 5.1.2600

- What specific version of IE are you using?
IE 7 Version 7.0.5730.11

- Who is your Internet service provider (ISP)? Do you use a dial-up
modem, DSL, or a cable modem?
ISP: ASU - dialup connection.

- Do you have any security software installed on your computer? Any
browser extensions or add-ons? Network firewall?
No Browser extentions, just using the Windows firewall.

- Try using this procedure to run IE without any add-ons:
1. Click 'start' on the Windows taskbar.
2. Select 'All Programs.'
3. Select 'Accessories' > 'System Tools' > 'Internet Explorer (No
Add-
ons)'.

No luck using this option as well :(

I can access it just fine using my broadband connection though so it
seems to be related to only dial up or slower connections. Using the
old link works everytime, but the new one is not working. This is
happening with regular gmail as well as asu gmail. The ASU gmail does
not have an alternate link like the regular gmail has :(

Hi GGBlue

Clearing cache does not help.

using Windows XP

using IE 7.0.5730.11

using Comcast Cable Modem

I have McAfee Security Center 8.1

I tried No-Add Ons IE and I still got the same Error.

I was able to log on with Firefox before. Now I can't even do that. I
don't get the "Operation aborted" message, but it just keeps trying to
load without any success.

Please help.
