We're investigating the loading issues you've reported when signing in
to Gmail and getting stuck on 'Loading...' or seeing the 'This is
taking too long' error. We're working on getting to the bottom of
this.
I am having these "loading" problems but, whenever I access gmail, I
also receive the error message:
"Some Gmail features have failed to load. If this problem persists,
try reloading the page, using the older version, or using basic HTML
mode. Learn More.
OK"
Is this a known problem? I could not find a topic for it.

It happens if you sign out before all of the active-x stuff has
loaded.
When you see the Inbox, click "sign out."
If you wait 30 seconds and then sign out, it will work fine. It is a
damned annoying "feature" when you dash in to check for emails, see
nothing, then sign out and then can't get back in until you restart
the browser.
I am writing to let you know that I switched from another email
provider to gmail for almost the exact same problems that I am now
experiencing with gmail. I am, how shall I put it.... very PISSED
OFF!!! I can't get to any of my mail.... how am I to conduct
business???? The "we're trying to get to the bottom of this" helps NO
ONE! How much longer are your people going to take??? Because now
YOU are "taking too long!"

Same here for the last 2 daysstuck on loading, and it never loads
only can view HTMLFirefox 3.0.8 here. Old troubleshoot re: this issue
for Firefox 2.0.xx is sorta useless info.

I'm with you and it isn't just the past two days - mine has been
happening more often than not since last Christmas when they had some
rubbish about having to change your address so you could sign in. If
you didn't change your primary address, though, you were "still able
to log into your group by email". So what? I have no idea what they
were asking, I didn't want to change any of my addresses and even when
I did try, I couldn't change it to another gmail account so what was
THAT all about and now I've had this problem fairly consistently
since. Connection maybe? Who would know but this is garbage and taking
far too long with no positive attempts to answer or fix except "we're
working on it". Yeah, I'm working on it too - looking into other free
email providers - someone who CAN and WILL provide the service they
say they can. I am so pleased I'm not paying for this alleged service
because it isn't good enough at all!!

Funny, I've just gone to my standard view, having changed nothing and,
voila, it worked. How long this will last is anybody's guess - on past
experience this will be the only time for the next four days. My other
gmail account does the same and yet my daughter's, which is checked on
this pc also, has never had this problem. How about no more excuses
and just fix it - whatever gmail is doing right now is what's
obviously working <sigh>. I'M fed up!!

I had the same problem and found that the new Xmarks replacement for
Foxmarks had a feature set called discovery that caused my problem.
When I disabled all items in the "discovery" tab of the xmarks
settings, Gmail worked again.

I don't know how far you have been down the road of troubleshooting
this...
I have multiple gmail accounts. All work fine except one, which I
recently switched to https only since I use it out of the country a
lot.
The account would load fine if I switched to another explorer than
ie7; it would also load and work fine if I switched to 'use an earlier
version'.
The account works fine when I change the settings to allow http,
rather than exclusively https.

I log in and it will sit there and I have to reload it, sometimes it
will
reload on itself and lately it is logging me out and I have to log in
again.
I am really getting tired of this.
I am using Firefox 3.0.8 and when switching to IE, I don't seem to
have
these problems, seems to be a Firefox problem. Sure be glad when this
problem is solved. You know, I didn't have this problem before, just
the
last few months.

Same here. Two accounts. One loads fine, one only loads in the basic
HTML view. It seems maybe I can get into the standard view if I let
it time out, then try reloading a time or two.

I have the same problem, seemed to start suddenly on 4-14-09. I
posted about it. I use IE7 and cannot run gmail with 'always use
https.' If I use Chrome, it works fine. I tried going in via Chrome
and turning OFF the https. Then gmail does work in IE7. But that is
not a good fix!!!
I am using Chrome for no for my gmail. But it seems to be an IE7/
gmail issue. https works fine in IE7 for other sites.
What happens in IE7 if https is used is that things take forever to
load then it freezes my IE7 completely and I have to use task manager
repeatedly to close the IE7 window.
GOOGLE!!! Fix this please!!! It ruins the whole point of webmail and
cloud computing!

Is there an update about this? I switched to the secure site last week
as you asked, and that worked until today. Now I'm again stuck at the
loading page. My other gmail accounts DO NOT do that, nor does my
roommate's account, also on this PC. When I check my main account (the
one I'm posting from) on other PC's, the same thing happens. So, any
progress?

The problem is acute with Internet Explorer 7. Significantly, it is
much less of an issue with Google Chrome. I'm required to use IE7
for a project at another location, and cannot get into Gmail there
with that browser.

I have two gmail accounts and have been experienceing the same slow
or stuck on
loading, freezing problems with both accounts, on two different
computers using two different versions of IE (IE6 & IE7) as well as
Chrome. That sounds more like gmail problems, not browser problems.
I have tried the fixes in gmail help with no success, but my gmail
seems to run a little better if I select "Older Version" at the top
of
the page. I have also notified gmail about these problems, but have
not received an response or seen this listed as a known issue. If
anyone figures out a solution, please post it here. Better yet,
perhaps gmail would post this as a known issue with some solutions
that work.

It seems Gmail defaults to the latest version when it loads, and
whatever you guys put up on 14 April doesn't work. I use the secure
site, and my IE7 locks up for minutes at a time. My CPU usage goes to
100% and stays there. It's as if Gmail's "traffic manager" delivers a
portion of its download, and goes off on a coffee break. My biggest
problem is that I have to wait until it comes back in order to select
'Older Version' (which works fine) to get on with the day.
Whomever worked on the section that doesn't work now should lay off
the funny tobacco.
