"Some addresses in the "From" field were not recognized. Please make
sure that all addresses are properly formed."
I've gotten the above error message on several emails I've tried to
send in the past few days. The problem, in each instance, occurred in
HTML view (and if the solution is to go back to standard view, then I
have to suffer, because standard view takes entirely too long to load
on dial-up), using the Quick Reply box in a conversation. Sending the
same text to the same addresses using Compose Mail has worked fine so
far.
If it were complaining about a malformed address in the To field, I'd
have a better idea of why the problem was coming up. But from HTML
view, I have no control over the From field, and presumably my Gmail
account knows my own primary Gmail address...

I am experiencing the exact same problem in HTML view. It has been
happening to me for about two days now. do you think someone at the
GMail team will see this and look into it?

I have the same problem too! It started yesterday. "Some addresses in
the "From" field were not recognized. Please make sure that all
addresses are properly formed." Very annoying as I am in Kenya and can
only use html view because of the slow connection. Gmail team, please
help!!

I cannot send a email either, it says
(Some addresses in the "From" field were not recognized. Please make
sure that all addresses are properly formed.)
Very annoying, it just started a couple days ago, I'm not sure why I
can't send because gmail doesn't recognize who I am???? This is
making me mad, and considering canceling my email account.
It seems gmail doesn't care that we can't send mail, I am wondering
why????
One day it doesn't care who the message is from, and the next day it
not only cares, but it blocks the message?

servers will just allow the emails to bounce back to you and at least
allow you to send! I need help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We'd like to look at this issue further, but in order to do so, I'll
need really specific answers so that we don't mix up separate issues.
These things will be helpful:
- What Gmail interface do you see this issue in? Possible answers:
"standard", older version, basic HTML, iPhone, mobile app, etc.
- Does this happen with all messages, or only those of a certain type
or with certain conditions?
- Are you using custom 'from' addresses? Does this only happen with
messages originally sent *to* that other address, only with messages
wherein you're changing the 'from' address within the message, or
both? Or none of the above?
- Does it happen if you click to save the draft before sending?

- It occurs on iPhone Web App (with Wifi and Edge)
- It occurs on several messages I want to respond with more than 2
contacts un the "To" field
- I'm using custom "From" adress on Gmail on my computer but not with
my iPhone (does this option exist on the Gmail Web App??). Messages I
want to respond are sent to my principal adress.
- I can perfectly save my draft
I hope I could help you, even if my english is not good!

I get it under basic HTML.
It happens with messages which I want to send a reply to using the
"Reply" button.
It does not happen to messages to which I reply using the "Quick
Reply" Box.
I use the address "[email address]" as my standard from address.
I did not observe if it happens only replying to messages that were
send to me using the above address.
I can save a draft o.k.

On mobile device (iPhone) only so far, though I've heard people say
they've gotten it on other devices. It occurs using the web browser
pointing to the mobile version of Gmail AND the iPhone Mail app
configured for Google.
> - Does this happen with all messages, or only those of a certain type

It is impossible to tell. It has happened sometimes but not other
times. One thing I noticed is that if I am in a thread, had already
sent a reply and then reply to my own message as a subsequent followup
(which in desktop Gmail actually directs the reply to the recipient),
the To address, as expected, is set to the recipient's address (not
mine) which is good, but then we see this "some addresses in the from
field were not recognized" nonsense. As people here have mentioned,
this should be literally impossible since all sender addresses are pre-
vetted by Gmail, so it sounds like the message is erroneous and
symptomatic of some other problem.
> - Are you using custom 'from' addresses? Does this only happen with

Can't change the "From" address within the message, as this is not
enabled on the mobile Gmail web site or the iPhone Mail app. Yes, I
*only* use custom "From" addresses. (Actually, it would be more than a
nice-to-have to enable changing From addresses on the mobile Gmail
site. One reason I don't use the iPhone Mail app and use the web site
instead is because that app ALWAYS uses the standard [email address]
address and NOT my default custom address.
> - Does it happen if you click to save the draft before sending?
Tried that, that doesn't help. Same issue after saving. Message can be
sent without incident, as someone else here mentioned, once you get to
your desktop and connect to Gmail that way.

I'm seeing it in basic HTML view, sending from my ordinary 'from'
address, the problem turns up on both saved drafts and replies to
conversations but not on new conversations that I've noticed, and I
haven't noticed whether it turns up on all saved drafts or on all
replies to conversations.

Could it be that this problem only occurs for people who have custom
addresses? I'm not sure if this has been confirmed.
I have a custom address in gmail, though as others have mentioned,
from the iPhone web interface (mobile), the from address is fixed as
the default gmail address, and it can't be changed. I tried switching
to HTML view and still no dice. I must mention though that the error
is not consistent, just as Rich Rosen said.
Surprising to hear that people are getting this error via the iPhone
mail app as well, ie via IMAP.

It'd make sense that it only occurs for people who have custom
addresses--I have several--except for the bit where it's happening in
HTML view. HTML view doesn't let me use any custom addresses.

This problem happens for me exclusively when using the basic HTML view
which I definitely prefer to use because I am blind. I have set up a
few custom addresses, but for me, the problem occurs when trying to
reply to a message that was sent to my regular Gmail address. As much
of a pattern as I have been able to determine, it seems to only happen
when I am trying to reply to a message sent to my regular gmail
address from a Yahoogroups email list. If I switch to the standard
view, I can reply just fine, but in basic HTML view I get this error
every time, and it doesn't matter if I use the quick reply box, or
click the reply link first. this is extremely frustrating. thanks
for looking into this.
I get this message on Gmail's mobile web interface (on Palm Centro).
This happens so far on messages where I reply.
I am using custom "from" addresses, and yes the message I am replying
to was originally sent to the custom address.
When I hit "Save" and then tried to send it, I got the same error
message.

iPhone. Browser. Forwarding or replying to yahoogroups emails. And
same behavior when forwarding emails from a primary account, that
recieves emails from other Gmail accounts.

- What Gmail interface do you see this issue in? Possible answers:
"standard", older version, basic HTML, iPhone, mobile app, etc.
iPhone, via Safari.
- Does this happen with all messages, or only those of a certain type
or with certain conditions?
Only in Rely/Reply to all. No error when composing a new mail.
- Are you using custom 'from' addresses? Does this only happen with
messages originally sent *to* that other address, only with messages
wherein you're changing the 'from' address within the message, or
There is no way to see/change the From: field in iPhone's Safari Gmail
page.
both? Or none of the above?
- Does it happen if you click to save the draft before sending?

I've been getting this error a LOT lately and it's very frustrating.
I use the standard HTML view and the error appears when I reply using
the quick reply box.
I have custom email addresses but it happens with my regular Gmail
address too. In fact it happened just a few minutes ago when I was
trying to reply to an email to my Mom - she has a Gmail address too.
So - I have a Gmail address and my Mom has a Gmail address but Gmail
doesn't recognize the Gmail addresses? That's just weird!
I'm not sure what you guys did to the email but it's not working
nearly as well now as it used to. I hope you get it fixed soon.

I am getting this same error if I use basic HTML on my desktop but not
when I use standard view. I get this error whether I use basic HTML or
mobile on my wifi iPaq or my wifi Axim. Any idea when this will be
resolved?

- Gmail Interface: iPhone only interface producing error. if message
is saved on iPhone can send just fine from desktop computer using
standard web interface accessing message from drafts folder
- Message type: can compose and send messages from iPhone gmail just
fine if email addressed to gmail account I am currently logged into.
Can not send to other gmail accounts or other accounts supported on
other domain names
- Custom from addresses: Error occurs with typed in addresses, those
from "choose contacts" tab, and from suggested contacts from iPhone
address book. Can't change the from address in Gmail mobile.
- Click Save then Send: Error occurs if you click save then send or
just click send
