GLASGOW YOUTHS REMANDED.

 

At a special meeting of the Keswick Police Court on Monday - before Mr. T. W. TOWNLEY - two youths, George DIVINE (16), and Josepg BELL (17), both of 110 King Street, Glasgow, were charged with breaking into the house of Mr. Fred GREENWOOD, 1 Park Holme, Keswick, last week.

 

P. C. BUTTERWORTH spoke to receiving the prisoners into custody from the Kendal borough Police.   Prisoners were remanded until Friday week.

BRAITHWAITE DEBATING SOCIETY.

 

 

The Braithwaite Debating Society met in the Braithwaite Schoolroom on Friday night. The speaker, the Rev. W. R. BURNETT, presided. The debate was general on the subject “Modernism,” Mr. C. A. LINLEY opened the discussion and was seconded by the Rev. W. R. BURNETT.

 

Mr. W. G. RICHARDSON, Mr. WORSLEY and Mr. W. WILSON spoke for  modernism and <r. S. SHEPHERD against it. A vote taken at the close of the discussion showed a large number in favour of retaining “Modernism.”

KESWICK ST. JOHN’S ARMISTICE SUNDAY.

 

 

At Keswick St. John’s Church on Sunday, the Armistace celebration was held, and was attended by the ex-servicemen under Lieut. H. T. PAPE, Keswick Detachment of the 4th Battalion the Border Regiment, under Sergt. MILLS, St. John’s Troop of Boy Scouts, Keswick Girl Guides, members of the Keswick Council, the Women’s section of the British Legion, and St. John’s Nursing Association.

 

The vicar, the Rev. C. H. LEWIN, preached. The collection was in aid of Earl HAIG Fund.
