1. I love gmarks - thanks you for creating it.
2. I can't seem to find this answer (thought I knew it) ... is there
a shortcut to make the gmarks list appear in the sidebar? (ie - like
ctrl-b does for bookmarks) I would have thought gmarks would
replace the bookmarks here. I can click on the icon, but sometimes I
am in keyboard mode and like a shortcut to bring up the sidebar.
Did I miss a trick someplace?
Thanks

darn. yes and no.
since you suggested alt-m, if figured this was indeed the official shortcut
(nowhere on g*d's internet can this be found documented!) ... it doesn't
work - but it's because it conflicts with another FF add-on. Neither add
on allows the shortcut to be changed. But at least now I know what the
shortcut is *supposed* to be, and get a full night's sleep
Thanks a bunch.

You can change it, there just isn't a nice way. Sorry You can also
find the shortcut listed if you go to View->Sidebars->Gmarks. Go to
about:config and search for gmarks.keys.sidebar. You can find a
description of the available values for the modifier field (which can
be a space separated list) at https://developer.mozilla.org/en/XUL/Attribute/modifiers You will need to restart Firefox.

Thanks. Useful to know ... but fyi I am happy with it now (as long as I
know)
Also -
1. Since another shortcut conflicted, I really never saw the sidebar (I
used the toolbar icon) ... SOooooooo ... it would never occur to me to
check view->sidebar since Gmarks was never primarily a sidebar utility (for
me)
2. Ironically - the add-on that conflicted was TinyMenu - which allowed
me to hide most of the FF toolbar menu ... only exposing "tools" ...
I appreciate the quick response. I don't know if you are the author - but
all it would take is to make reference to Alt-M in the options dialog (and
even better, an option to change it).
While I have your attention though ... you wouldn't happen to know if
somehow GMarks would allow me to make the bookmarks on the FF toolbar
portable, too. Normally this isn't part of Google-Bookmarks, but I thought
I would ask if somehow there was a way in GMarks.

I'm the author. There's a toolbar item you can add called GMarks
Toolbar which you can drag onto the toolbar from the customize dialog
(View-Toolbars-Customize). By default it shows the bookmarks in a
drop down list but you can specify a specific label or labels for it
to show in the options dialog.

Oh I use both toolbar items (the one you described, and the one that opens
the sidebar).
Allow me to restate my question.
ON the toolbar, I have a few bookmarks (not icons, not buttons, but Firefox
bookmarks .,... on the toolbar, ready to click). my 400 other bookmarks
are in google-bookmarks ... portable everywhere. I've used google
bookmarks for a year or two, and I am unaware of an obvious way to make the
TOOLBAR set of bookmarks portable.
No need to describe workarounds (I certainly can copy the toolbar bookmarks
into google-bookmarks in its own special label) ...
but if gmarks had a way to do this it would be nice (for instance if
gmarks maintained a special hidden label so it could force google to save to
toolbar bookmarks)
I work on at least 3 different machines (home desktop, laptop, work desktop
.. and sometimes when i visit my parents or something s... so portability is
a very nice thing for me)
Thanks again for your time and attention!

No I guess that isn't really possible, although the toolbar item does
function similarly if given a specific label (like a toolbar label)

Actually you could (theoretically) include this in gmarks - essentially,
with my checking off permission, 1. store toolbar bookmarks in some obscure
google label. 2. overwrite the "Bookmarks Toolbar" folder in firefox
whenever I ask.
but this is really something google should do ... particularly since their
FF google toolbar is supposed to share the button layout among any FF
browser that I log on to with google. It seems to be almost a no brainer
for them to save the toolbar bookmarks. While I would love it, if you
did this - the danger is that google might one day make it obsolete (like
they did today with Gmail and Folders4Gmail)
Thanks again for your time! Gmarks is great!
