Medford - The MSPCA is seeking the owner of a stray Husky who was hit
by a car in Medford around 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 21. Unlike
several past cases of “hit and run,” the driver who accidentally hit
the Husky immediately sought police and medical assistance for the
injured dog.
After finding that there were no available local options to treat the
injured husky he quickly drove her to Angell Animal Medical Center in
Boston, where the dog — nicknamed Sasha by the hospital staff —
received immediate emergency medical attention.
“Unfortunately it is all too common for drivers to accidentally hit a
dog and flee the scene to the detriment of the animal,” said Dr. Kiko
Bracker of Angell Animal Medical Center’s Emergency/Critical Care
service. “The quick thinking that his driver possessed, as well as the
empathy he showed, meant that Sasha was receiving life saving medical
attention shortly after this accident.”
In addition to the driver’s quick thinking, the driver also agreed to
pay $1,000 to cover a portion of the cost of emergency medical
treatment as well as X-rays.
“He wanted to ensure that she was treated in a timely fashion and
offered to stay with her,” said Brian Adams, spokesperson for Angell.
“He’s a Medford resident and wishes to remain anonymous at this time.
But I think we can really learn from this. It was a complete accident.
He knew this and his concern was for the safety of the animal. He
really went above and beyond.”
Sasha is currently recovering from injuries to her hip and front legs,
which will require six weeks of kennel rest. “That’s much better than
having to go in for kennel surgery,” Adams pointed out.
The dog will be entering foster care with the doctor who is in charge
of her case.
The MSPCA-Angell continues to care for thousands of homeless and
abused animals annually. People interested in donating to the care
that these animals receive or on the progress that Sasha is making can
visit www.mspca.org/sasha for more information.
Seeking Sasha’s owner
Officials at the Angell Animal Medical Center describe injured dog
Sasha as “sweet and socialized,” which makes them fairly positive that
an owner will come forward. If you have any information on Sasha’s
owners, call the MSPCA’s Adoption center at 617-541-5025.
