Subject: Friends of the Fells Evicted
The local papers are reporting that the DCR is in the process of
evicting the Friends of the Fells from the office space that they have
enjoyed on state property for years, rent free.

In response to word that the Friends of the Fells are pressuring the
Commonwealth to reverse this decision, a couple of websites operated
by local mountain bikers are urging a letter-writing campaign to state
legislators, urging them to NOT change this decision, in light of the
fact that the Friends of the Fells have worked consistently to ban
user groups like cyclists and dog owners.  If you're interested in

One post on the New England Mountain Bike Association site summarizes
the issue in this way:

"The Friends of the Fells has used this space for free for the last 15
years, using this resource to try to ban legitimate users such as
mountain bikers, dog walkers and trail runners, and attempting to
reduce parking so as to inhibit the public enjoyment of this park.
This elitist and restrictive objective is at odds with the mission of
the DCR. We hope their letter writing campaign to Gov. Patrick and
other politicians does not sway the DCR from doing the right thing."
