According to the National Association of Realtors, although FSBO's
make up about 40% of the non-shortsale, non-foreclosure market, only
12% of the closed sales are by FSBO's. In other words, they give up
and list with a realtor.
I think the reason for that is that they don't take the marketing of
their own homes as seriously as they need to if they are going to be
successful.
In this era, a sign in the yard and the occasional classified ad in
the local newspaper isn't going to get their house sold. They need to
do EVERYTHING possible to get the information about their house 'out
there' for everyone to see.
Some 80% of ALL buyers starting looking on the internet. That says
something about the demographics of buyers...they're internet
savvy...they're generally of the generation where the internet isn't
some mystical, complex medium.
FSBO's need to access the free internet sites and advertise,
advertise, advertise. They need to put ads in the local forums as
well as Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Daily Motion and others.
