FREE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

The Delta Dental of New Jersey Foundation is offering a free
educational program called Prevent Abuse and Neglect through Dental
Awareness. The program is available to New Jersey school faculty and
administration, dental office and clinic personnel, and professional
organizations that care for children. PANDA Coalition representatives
are available to present the program free of charge to dental or other
interested groups with 10 or more attendees. The program can be
tailored for one to three hours, and a PANDA presentation qualifies for
continuing education credits with the New Jersey State Board of

MONMOUTH OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS

WEST LONG BRANCH: Children of Monmouth University alumni who are
enrolled as undergraduate students at the university or will
matriculate in the fall are eligible to apply for an alumni association
scholarship for the next academic year. The $1,000 nonrenewable
scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement, school and

WHITEN TEETH & DONATE

HAZLET: 180 Turning Lives Around Inc. is seeking front desk volunteers

CLUB OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS

FREEHOLD: The Evening Optimist Club of Freehold is offering
scholarships to seniors of class 2006 in amounts of $500 and $1,000.
Applicants must reside in communities within the Freehold Regional High
School District. To apply, students must be in good academic standing
and have been accepted to a two-or-four year post-secondary school.
Applicants must submit a short essay about themselves and their goals,
and two letters of recommendations - one referring to their academic
accomplishments and the other to their community services. Students

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS

FREEHOLD: Applications are being accepted for the $2,000 scholarships
given by the Freehold area branch of the American Association of
University Women. The scholarships are for female students at least 25
years old. Applicants must be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program
and must have completed at least 60 credits, or be enrolled in a
graduate-degree program and have completed at least one semester. All
applicants must be residents of Western Monmouth County. Applicants

GRANTS AVAILABLE

MONMOUTH/OCEAN COUNTIES: New Jersey State Council on the Arts will
provide grants to private nonprofit organizations, units of local

NEW COMMUNITY CENTER

RED BANK: The Salvation Army announces a new community center now open
at 180 Newman Springs Road. The Jane H. Booker Community Center will

CPR PARTIES

MONMOUTH/OCEAN COUNTIES: The American Red Cross is offering CPR parties
for parents and parent-to-be. The parties will take place at the home
and participants can train as many as 12 adults in infant, child and
adult CPR as well as first aid. Training is done through a Red Cross
certified instructor with hands-on instruction and video training.
Costs per person are dependent upon the number of attendees. Each CPR

STOP BULLYING

MONMOUTH/OCEAN COUNTIES: Free help now is available for Spanish
speaking victims of teasing and bullying and their families. "How to
Stop Being Teased and Bullied without Really Trying," a manual by child
psychologist Izzy Kalman, teaches victims of teasing and bullying to

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED

MONMOUTH COUNTY: Pacific Intercultural Exchange, a nonprofit
educational organization, needs families to host foreign high school
students between the ages of 15 and 18 years. The students are
English-speaking, have spending money and carry accident and health
insurance. PIE matches students with families according to common

GIFT BRICKS

MONMOUTH COUNTY: The Brookdale Community College's Alumni Association
is accepting orders for commemorative engraved bricks recognizing a
graduate, a current or future student, or in support of Brookdale
scholarship programs. The bricks will be placed in the Winner's Circle
near the statue of the filly Regret, winner of the 1915 Kentucky Derby.
Regret was born and trained at Brookdale Farm, which later became the
college's campus. Bricks may be ordered to include up to two lines of
engraving and feature the name of the donor, year of graduation or a

FORESTRY PROGRAM

MONMOUTH/OCEAN COUNTIES: The New Jersey Tree Foundation has announced
the Second Cities Initiative - a project to re-establish urban and
community forestry programs in some of the state's most underserved
communities. The initiative will provide grant funding to eight
communities with instruction and assistance in writing and implementing
a five-year community forestry management plan while simultaneously
beautifying urban neighborhoods with shade trees and providing the
necessary training to create strong urban forestry programs in these

DONATE BOOKS

MANALAPAN: The Monmouth County Library System is sponsoring two book
donation drives during this holiday season. In Books for Kids, a New
Jersey Library Association program, new books will be accepted and
distributed to disadvantaged children. Share a Story is a national
public service campaign sponsored by PBS Kids to help children learn to
read. NJN Public Television, Monmouth County Library and N.J. Natural
Gas coordinate the collection and delivery of juvenile reading books.

BLUE LEASH AWARDS

MIDDLETOWN: The Navesink Swimming River Group, a citizens group focused
on protecting and preserving Navesink Swimming River watershed,
announced it will give free dog leashes and Blue Leash program
certificates of appreciation to any dog walkers who pick up trash and
recyclables while walking their dogs during a 30-day period. Dog
walkers simply pick up and bag litter while walking, noting what they
find on a checklist supplied by the NSRG. After at least 30 days of
walking, the checklist can be returned to NSRG by e-mail or U.S. mail

RED BANK: The BPO Elks 233 is offering scholarships to seniors
attending Henry Hudson Regional, Red Bank Regional, Rumson-Fair Haven

nationwide program sponsored by the Elks and open to all high school
seniors, regardless of their affiliation with the Elks. For

DRIVING SOBER

AIDE APPLICATIONS

MOCEANS CENTER for Independent Living is accepting applications for its
personal assistance services program for people with disabilities.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING

AARP OFFERS a driver's update class for drivers age 50 and older to
improve driving skills. Completion of AARP 55/Alive Mature Driving
entitles motorists to at least a 5 percent discount on their insurance
for three years, plus two points off their driving record, if needed.

SENIORS IN MOTION is making available scooters, motorized and manual

intended to award students who have worked diligently to achieve their
grades in an effort to continue their education in a post secondary

BOAT RAMP OPENS

HOWELL: The Monmouth County Park System's boat ramp at the Manasquan
Reservoir on Windeler Road now is open. Seasonal and daily boat launch
passes are available. The cost is $4 for a daily pass or $35 for a
seasonal pass. Boats with electric motors, sailboats no longer than 20
feet in length, kayaks and canoes at least 8 feet are permitted on the

HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR HELP

MONMOUTH COUNTY: A recent appropriation to Monmouth County's Jewish
Family and Children's Service from the New Jersey State Funding for
Holocaust Survivors Program can subsidize such daily activities as home
health care, including personal care, cooking and light housekeeping. A
home health aide can arrange for Kosher Meals on Wheels delivery and
provide transportation to a doctor's office when necessary. If you know

SUMMER BAND

HAZLET: Hazlet Recreation again will sponsor a summer band program for
boys and girls in grades 4 to 6 who currently play a band instrument in

STAR SENIORS

MONMOUTH COUNTY: Sheriff Joseph W. Oxley and Office on Aging Executive
Director John A. Wanat have established the Gold Star Senior Travel
Program at Howell Senior Center. The program provides emergency
identification for senior citizens. The ID can be carried in the glove
compartment when traveling by car. The special identification form is
meant to assist first responders with identifying a senior should they
