Cooking class set Tuesday
An "EZ Cooking Class" will be held for people suffering from Multiple
Sclerosis, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Parkinson's and other chronic
conditions which lead to low energy, muscle weakness, joint pain and
fatigue.

The class will be led by Helen Houston, a licenced occupational
therapist at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, and Jackie Sugg, a
registered dietitian at the Pitt County Health Department, in
collaboration with the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The class will provide participants with guidance on how to make
healthy food choices. It is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the
New Horizons Square Kitchen Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at PCMH.
Parking will be available in front of Inpatient Rehabilitation. Enter
at the rehabilitation gate.

The cost is $3 per person. Dinner will be provided. Call Houston at
847-4442 by 3 p.m. Friday to make a reservation or for more
information.

Blood drive planned today
Embarq, 401 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, will host a blood drive
from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. In addition, the Eastern North Carolina
Donor Center, 700 Cromwell Drive, will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Amputee group meets Monday
An amputee support group will meet from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday in the rehab
classroom at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. For more information, call
728-7828 or 847-5845.

Breast cancer screening set
Pitt County Health Department will hold a free breast cancer screening
from 1:30-4 p.m. Friday at the Pitt County Health Department, 201
Government Circle. All screening participants will receive educational
information about breast cancer, a clinical breast exam and
instructions on performing monthly breast-self exams. Arrangements for
a free mammogram will be made for those who meet eligibility criteria.

Nominations are sought
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2006 North Carolina Awards
for Outstanding Volunteer Service. The program showcases North
Carolina's most dedicated volunteers. Each county may select five
individuals, businesses, and/or groups to be recognized.

One will be nominated to receive the N.C. Outstanding Volunteer
Medallion. Forms are available from the United Way of Pitt County, 1020
Red Banks Road, second floor, Manpower building, or e-mail
dlucas@unitedway pittcounty.com.
