I have "Gutsy" Ubuntu 7.10 and Firefox 2.0.0.11 and the Google
toolbar is stuck "Downloading bookmarks..." forever.
Following suggestions on similar threads, I installed the following
packages:
gcc-3.3-base
glibc-doc
libstdc++5
I have tried un/re-installing toolbar, re-starting firefox, re-booting
my machine and still my toolbar is hosed. this sucks ass.

Ocarlsen, as I've written elsewhere, I use the del.icio.us 1.5.44 add-
on for bookmarks on my 64-bit machine, so my situation doesn't exactly
parallel your own and my suggestions have to be regarded as no more
than that - suggestions. Be that as it may, in your shoes I should
attempt the following : firstly, inactivate all add-ons save for the
toolbar. Is it now possible for you to get the bookmarks feature to
function as you desire ? If so, re-activate your other add-ons one-at-
a-time, in order to determine which is/are interfering with the
bookmarks. When you find it/them, uninstall.
Secondly, if the above doesn't work, the problem may be due to corrupt
extension files in your Firefox profile folder. The following link
will help you check this out :

that was good advice. I hadn't intstalled any other extensions, but
there was one pre-installed by default:
ubufox 0.4~beta1.
I don't know what that is but I disabled it and now the bookmarks
load. thank you!
