Logged in last night and played around a bit.

I noticed that a command prepended with a space is not accepted by the parser.

I'm not sure if this was the cause for my experience that sometimes a
command had to be repeated before it took effect.

That's possible, I'll see if I can strip() the commands before
processing them, this will remove trailing whitespaces at the
beginning and end.
