There are some limitations in XML VDOC in 2012.1 but we wanted to get it into people’s hands you could start working with it.
There is a clear requirement for XML VDOC in more places that file services and operations and we will be adding these at some point. The most obvious is in a web service but there the requirements are more varies, because very often you want to use information from the SOAP header as well as the SOAP body.
It is very simple to build an XML VDOC from any character stream. I’m travelling today, but I’ll post a sample when I get a chance.
Does anyone else has samples to post?
Dave

The Using XML and Web Services in Ensemble academy from Global Summit 2012 contains an example of using an XML VDOC in a Web Service. The full academy does make use of some 2012.2 enhancements in this area, but still there is some code to create the XML VDoc in a Web Service. There is also a sample of a DTL using the VDocs.
The academies are available off the InterSystems site at http://www.intersystems.com/summit2012/download.html.

Hi,
I use Xml Virtual Document with Ensemble field test 2012.2. This new functionaly is very useful and efficient. This version manages only files by services, operations with EnsLib.EDI.XML.* classes. In future versions is-it planned to manage, like HL7, FTP, HTTP, SOAP and TCP adapters ?
Thank you for your response
Regards
Eric Sebelin
