Here's an article on the importance of government action to assure that election results accurately reflect the intent of the voters.  It's written by Ken Blackwell, and he sees the biggest threat to democracy coming from the "dilution" of the legitimate will of the voters by those who aren't entitled to vote.

Perhaps the following quote from an American Civil Rights Union fellow would help to place the ACRU on the political spectrum (i.e. opposed to 75% of Republicans and 95% of Democrats, the rough percentages who oppose Citizens United v. FEC):

"Citizens United v. FEC is a “big victory” alright. It’s a tremendous victory for average Americans, restoring their First Amendment rights to join together to be heard. Barack Obama may be fuming, but our Founding Fathers are smiling."
