Believe me, I am not asking this as a snide, rhetorical question. It
really boggles the mind that the initial vote was apparently
inaccurate.
My guess is that we rush to print early numbers that are inaccurate and
unreliable. This salutes and underscores the excellent work of our
California Secretary of State, Debra Bowen, who has instituted
requirements for hand counts of specified machine results, etc..
Various critics were suggesting that it would be a disaster if we
didn't get the results within minutes of the close of polls. This New
York mess suggests that we'd all be better off counting the votes
carefully and accurately FIRST, rather than putting up possibly
sloppy/incomplete first results.
Let's take the time to get it right.
