Hi everyone,
got a new Sept. 25 venture to announce. This is one we are launching
but are intentionally not branding as EGR because we're hoping to
attract many partners and have it take on a life of its own.
We're calling it
World MDG Blogging Day.
On Sept. 25, we're asking bloggers around the world to post about
making poverty history. It can be information about the MDGs, a story
of extreme poverty from your own life or travels, a poem, a podcast, a
video clip, a piece of art, a prayer, an open letter to your leaders
... whatever your way of raising your voice for those in extreme
poverty is.
We've set up a blogring and made it easy to join. We've also set up a
Facebook event page (
http://tinyurl.com/mdgblog) and
soon will
have a website --
www.mdgbloggingday.org.
(I just started the Facebook event within the hour and already we have
six people signed up, so that's pretty good!)
All people need to do to sign up is:
1) click on this link --
http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?action=addform&ring=nr1529
and follow the instructions to add their blog to the list.
2) choose a badge from that site and put it on their blog so that
others know they are participating and can join, too.
3) Invite every blogger they know to join!
Our hope is that this will spread virally ... but for that we need as
many partners as possible. Since EGR is U.S.-based, we especially would
love partners who can enlist bloggers from outside the U.S. in this
movement. I'm on the Micah Challenge advisory network, so I've just
sent an email to all our partners in Micah asking them if they would
partner in this. I'm also going to contact folks at Bread, the ONE
Campaign, and other organizations.
In addition to recruiting bloggers that you know, I'd love it if you
could forward this to any other networks you know across all boundaries.
We also would love as much creative help as possible in advertising
this, designing logos, etc. I've put some very basic badge designs up
on the blogring but I'd love better options from more creative people.
Again, I have intentionally not branded this as an EGR initiative in
hopes
that many more will jump on and it will take on a life of its own.
Oh ... and kudos to Sabina Alkire who planted the seed for this idea!
Christ's peace,
Mike+
... BTW, we're up to 633 people signed up for the Day of Prayer,
Fasting and Advocacy ... and the number of "awaiting reply" listings is
staying constant at 1500-1600, which means people are continuing to
invite their friends. I'm hopeful we'll hit 1,000 by Friday! Keep
spreading the word (and you can also go to
www.sept25.org to sign up!)
