JOBS  WITH CANADIAN GOVERNMENT

The entire public service is going through a challenging period as
people with a lot of experience are retiring and we are working to
make sure that we have the best talent available.  Every fall, the
public service launches what is called its Post-Secondary Recruitment
Program.  Closing dates for most applications is 10 October, 2008.

Positions being staffed include:
 - Citizenship and Immigration Officer (i.e.: local CIC officers)
 - Foreign Service Officer (Visa Officer)
 - Foreign Service Officer (Foreign Affairs and International Trade)
 - ES Recruitment and Development Program (General Policy Officers,
    various posters, various departments)
 - Financial Officers
 - Human Resources Officers
 - Legal Counsel (for lawyers called to a provincial bar)
 - Program Officers (Heritage Canada)
 - Programmers/IT Specialists
 - Northern Recruitment Program (Indian and Northern Affairs, many
    different jobs)
 - Administrative Officers
 - many others.

Expect competition to be extremely fierce, but do not let this deter
you or others from applying.  There are many jobs and many needs.  The
key to getting through any competition is preparation, practice and
performing very well on the exams and interviews.  Persistence is also
very important.  Don't give up after the first refusal - most people
have to succeed in 2-3 competitions before being pulled off a
 qualified pool of candidates.

Do you need to be a citizen to apply?  In general, permanent residents
may apply to any government jobs except for the Foreign Service,
National Defences or RCMP.  Permanent residents can be put on a
qualified pool of candidates and may be appointed by a hiring manager.
The only requirement is that hiring managers select citizens from the qualified pool first.
 How do you apply?

 - click on the language you want
 - on the left, click on 'job opportunities for graduates'
 - click on 'post-secondary recruitment'
 - go down the page and click on 'current opportunities'

Check through these websites often, because other jobs are also posted
that are outside of these post-secondary recruitment campaigns
