-2007 Centennial Quality District-
Dear Cub Scout Leaders: The following are reminders related to upcoming events in the Del-Mi District. Yours in Scouting, Roundtable next Thursday, October 9 October 9, 7:00-8:30 PM —Topics this month include Winter Activities and Webelos to Scout Transition. We’ll be meeting in the Bi-Rooms which are located on the lower level on the east side of the building. We’ll post signs since this is not our usual meeting room. Noblesville First United Methodist Church is located at 2051 Monument Street in Noblesville. Does your pack have a Pack Trainer? Training next week! October 9, 7:00-8:30 PM—For most packs in our council, the answer is no. What if there was someone in your Cub Scout Pack who took care of orienting new parents, maintaining all training records, and making sure that all your leaders knew what they were doing? What if your pack had a person who was qualified to actually train leaders who were unable to make it to training courses? For the packs which have Pack Trainers, the Cub Scout program is a dream come true. The program is easier for families and leaders to participate in. The program is more fun and fulfilling for boys. Pack meetings are better attended, fundraisers are more enthusiastically supported, and parents are more willing to be involved. These packs grow without effort, as families and boys recruit others through their excitement for the program, and more families are retained from year to year. Depending on how your pack functions and how it has functioned for the last few years, this could be a very easy position to fill. In a well-organized pack, a Pack Trainer’s job consists of maintaining 100% trained leaders, and introducing new families to the program. Even in the roughest of situations, this position could be challenging for a while, but then become easier as momentum gathers. On Thursday October 9th starting at 7pm, there will be Pack Trainer Specific Training at Noblesville First United Methodist Church (where Roundtable is held). We will teach your trainers what and how to do the job for their position. Look for the signs directing you to the correct room. Please register online for this free training at www.del-mi.org by clicking on training. Outdoor Leadership Skills for Webelos Leaders Training Reminder The Del-Mi District is offering an Outdoor Leadership Skills Training for Boy Scout Scoutmasters and Webelos Den Leaders, their assistants, or anyone else that wants to learn more about leading boys outdoors. Learn more online at www.del-mi.org and click on Training on the left. The training will be held over 3 sessions beginning October 9. Webelos Encampment—Last Chance to Register! The district’s annual Webelos Encampment is scheduled for next weekend, October 10-12, at Camp Kikthawenund north of Noblesville. This event creates an excellent opportunity for your pack’s Webelos 1 and Webelos 2 Scouts. Each age group will have a separate program that introduces them to the fun that can be had in the Boy Scouting program. Any Webelos dens that are participating must pre-register by Wednesday, October 8, to Sall...@gmail.com. Further information may be found online at www.del-mi.org/webelos/encampment/. Sign up now for Family Friends of Scouting We are currently in the process of scheduling units for 2009 Family Friends of Scouting (FOS) presentations. For those unfamiliar with Friends of Scouting, FOS is the yearly fundraiser for the Crossroads of America Council. Donations from Scouting families across the council helps Scouting thrive and grow in Central Indiana. During the months of October through February, each Pack, Troop, Team, and Crew should schedule and hold a Friends of Scouting presentation. This presentation, conducted by a district or unit volunteer, explains to parents how our Council is financed and educates them about our mission, services, facilities, and the "true cost" of Scouting. Units should sign up for their presentation now so we can give district volunteers enough time to prepare for your presentation. Please sign up online now by October 31 at www.del-mi.org/finance/fos/.
