The Congolese Community of Chicago (CCC/DRC) is honored to invite you to the conference "The Congo: Reclaiming Its Destiny" taking place in Chicago on Friday, March 30, 2012 and Saturday, March 31, 2012. CCC/DRC is co-sponsoring this conference with several departments of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), the Center for Research on the Congo, Congonova, Alliance Francaise de Chicago, and Le Duo Dynamique.      
 
Please see the attached flyer for more details about the conference. Biographical information for key speakers also is attached. A detailed schedule of the conference is available on the conference's website: http://www.congosdestiny.com/. And here is a summary of the program.
 
Friday, March 30th at 6:30pm (free admission):
A Congolese cultural celebration and panel discussion: poetry reading by the poet Toussaint Kafarhire Murhula, S.J.; reading of a play by Pierre Mumbere Mujomba, followed by a panel discussion with scholars Aliko Songolo, John Nimis, and the authors.
 
Saturday, March 31st from 8am-5:30pm (free admission):
A day long conference on the Congo (DRC) with scholars and activists with a keynote address from Dr. Georges Nzongola-Ntalaja.
 
Saturday, March 31st 7pm (tickets $15 in advance and $20 at the door):
A banquet with a keynote address by Ms. Muadi Mukenge, Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Global Fund for Women.  Catering by Congolese caterers Le Duo Dynamique (http://leduodynamique.com/).  Music and other entertainment to follow.
