Division of Water Job Opening
GIS Database Administrator
(Civil Service Title: Database Administrator)
Pay Band: $39,937.34 - $95,643.85

The Division of Water's Budget/IT Section is searching for a
motivated individual to join its Citywide GIS staff as the GIS Database
Administrator.   This individual must possess excellent Database and
GIS administration, organizational, and problem-solving skills, work
well under pressure, and have a strong desire to complete jobs
accurately, on! time and in a professional manner.  The individual will
interact with Division of Water and City of Cleveland employees on
virtually all levels, thus excellent interpersonal skills are a must.
The individual must be detail-oriented, and highly experienced in GIS
database administration and support.

Typical Tasks:
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
·         Administering, maintaining and supporting Citywide GIS
system's core database
·         Leading research, identification and resolution of reported
database issues
·         Planning, scheduling and performing database modifications
in a timely manner
·         Providing full documentation of database structure, design,
modifications and operating procedures
·         Assisting GIS and IT staff members with implementing and
solving issues related to the GIS system
·         Maintaining current knowledge of industry standard tools
related to GIS application development, networking and RDBMS systems
·         Developing and implementing backup, recovery and contingency
plans
·         Installing new software releases, system upgrades, and
evaluating and installing patches
·         Maintaining a library of backups, archiving and retrieving
information as needed
·         Assisting user groups with GIS activities
·         Working closely with GIS project team through completion of
current project, and with future project teams for upgrades,
enhancements and system expansions
·         Participating in GIS related projects with the Division,
Department, and Cityw! ide as assigned
·         Performing other job-related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:
·         BS/BA in computer science, or closely related technical
field with course work in RDBMS is required
·         A minimum of three (3) years fulltime, paid, technical
experience designing, implementing and maintaining large relational
databases in a GIS environment is required
·         Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 6.5/7.0, Oracle 8.0 or
higher, current versions of Microsoft Windows (98/2000/etc.), Novell
Netware, NT Server, Microsoft 97/2000 with emphasis in Microsoft Access
and Dbase5 is required
·         Experience administering ESRI ArcSDE and ArcIMS applications
is required. ArcGIS Server helpful
·         Experience with Client/server concepts including
Transact-SQL programming, query optimization, cursors, dynamic
execution and string manipulation is required
·         Experience with database connectivity methods using DAQ,
RDO, ADO, ODBC and DBLibrary is required
·         Experience in programming languages such as SQL, Visual
Basic, ASP and HTML is required
·         Must be able to use and update computerized systems
·         A valid State of Ohio Driver's License or Ohio State ID is
required
·         Must be able to lift a minimum of twenty (20) pounds
·         Excellent written and oral communication skills
·         Computer proficiency in Microsoft business applications
including Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
·         Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MSDBA) or Oracle
Certified Professional (OCP) is strongly preferred
