specializing in GIS services for clients in both the public and private
sectors.  The GIS staff in our five regional offices perform a variety
of tasks, including work in:

·      Application Development
·      Data Conversion

The Columbus office of FMSM is currently offering GIS Internship
opportunities to qualified students as follows:
        Hours Available:        up to 80 hours/week
        Timeframe:              November, 2005 through July, 2006 (possibility of
extension)
        Wage:                   $10.00/hour

The primary responsibilities for these positions will involve assisting
existing GIS staff with FEMA Map Modernization projects.  As a FEMA
contractor, FMSM is responsible for the production of countywide
digital Flood Insurance Rate Insurance Maps (DFIRMs), which require
strict adherence to mapping and database guidelines and the production
of deliverables under regular deadlines.
The ideal candidate therefore will possess the following skills, or
will be trained in such as part of the position:
·      Understanding of GIS concepts and theory
·      Experience on PC workstations
·      Experience with ESRI GIS software
·      Proficient in ArcGIS: ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox, 3D Analyst,
Spatial Analyst
·      Experience using orthophotography in GIS
·      Georectifying raster data
·      Experience (heads-up) digitizing
·      Familiarity with Geodatabase file structure
·      Editing feature class and shapefile data
·      Familiarity with digital elevation models: GRID, TIN
·      Floodplain delineation
·      Cartographic design, production, editing
·      Hardcopy output using large format plotters
·      Working well under multiple strict deadlines
