The Cloverdale Arts Alliance presents "The Spring Series of "Discovering Art: a History of Impressionism", on Wednesday,  April 4, 2007.  It is hard to believe, but this is the last class in this series.

We will be viewing lectures #23 and #24.  These illustrated lectures focus on the works of  the Nabis, and  La Fin, the end works of the Impressionists.  The Nabis were a small group of young men who formed a "brotherhood" of artists in the late 1880's.  Inspired by Gauguin's brotherhood of artists in Pont Aven, artists like Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis and Edouard Vuillard move forward to create their own world of exaggerated colors ,abstract paintings, and a new view of Parisian public places and neighborhoods.

The last lecture looks at the later careers of the Impressionists, as they age and become more successful, losing their sense of radicalism and social experimentation.   We will see where all our favorite painters ended up, in terms of their artistic journeys.

.

The class will begin at 8 p.m. at the Center for the Arts (105 E. First  St.) and conclude at approximately 9:30 p.m.  In order to reimburse the Arts Alliance for the expenses of administration, space at the Center and refreshments, a donation ($3 per  class for CAA members, $5 for non-members) will be requested.

We hope to see you there, as we say our fond farewell to Impressionism.
