कई साल बाद मैं भारत आया तो चौंका भाषा का बदलाव देख कर। शायद
अब लोगों को शरम आने लगी है बगैर अंग्रेजी के वाक्यों में।

वार्निंग"
इसमें केवल "पर" शब्द हिन्दी का है।
ये मामला काफी गहरा है, लेकिन शायद भारत के आधुनिक युवा का
सपना अब भूरे अंग्रेज बनने का है।

लिखी है। मेरा तो मानना है कि चिंता जायज है क्योंकि जितने हिन्दी भाषी

मुझे इस समाचार की मंशा पर ही शक हो रहा है। 'टाइम्स आफ इण्डिया' कब से हिन्दी और भारतीय भाषाओं के हित और उज्ज्वल भविष्य की चिन्ता करने लगा? भारत के अधिकांश अंग्रेजी अखबार तो आज भी 'क्वीन के सच्चे वफादार' हैं। इस लेख में जो तर्क भी दिये गये हैं वे हास्यास्पद हैं। सोहा के हिन्दी बोलने या न बोलने से कितना फर्क पड़ता है?
दूसरी बात हिन्दी के 'संस्कृतकरण' की है। क्या 'संस्कृतकरण', 'दुरुहता' का पर्याय है? सारी दुनिया के विद्वान मानते है कि संस्कृत की शाब्दिक शक्ति विलक्षण है। अंग्रेजी इस माने में कहीं नहीं ठहरती। फारसी-अरबी का तो सवाल ही नहीं है। फिर हिन्दी में कोई गम्भीर अर्थ व्यक्त करने के लिये संकृत के शब्द का प्रयोग किया जाय तो इस पर आपत्ति का क्या औचित्य है?
लोग रटी-रटायी बात दोहरा देते हैं कि हिन्दी को आसान करने की जरूरत है। पर उनके पास इसका उत्तर नहीं होता कि क्या हिन्दी का अप्रयोग उसकी दूरूहता के कारण है या इसके पीचे कोई और कारण या षडयन्त्र है।
हिन्दी में संकृत के शब्दों का प्रयोग हिन्दी को भारत की दूसरी भाषाओं के निकट लायेगा और इससे हिन्दी की स्वीकार्यता बढ़ेगी। इसके अलावा हिन्दी द्वारा संस्कृत के शब्दों का उपयोग स्वाभाविक और तर्कसम्मत है। आखिर हिन्दी संस्कृत की बेटी है।

The article is wrong on so many counts that I don't even want to
respond to it. But I am furious because it is a malicious article. The
intent is all too clear. Biased would be a mild word for it; it is
more like a conspiracy against the growth of Hindi. Wajihuddin Saahab
seems to have reached (or may have been told to reach by the higher
powers) the conclusion already. He is merely trying to justify that
somehow with half-baked hypothesis and incorrect data. But he fails
miserably. Let's see his arguments one by one.
He writes:

At the academia, Hindi is not the preferred subject of specialisation
anymore. "Till the 1990s, we had nearly 400 students in the Master's
course at the Mumbai University. Now the number has dwindled to half,"
says Ramji Tiwari, a former Hindi teacher at the university. "Earlier,
students would take pride in their rashtra bhasha. Now learning the
national language is no longer a matter of pride."
========
First of all, knowing the language of one's surroundings should be
less a matter of pride than a mere natural phenomenon. In fact not
knowing it is being illiterate. Secondly, Mumbai University's data
cannot be extrapolated to conclude that it's happening everywhere. The
situation is actually the contrary. How would he explain new Hindi
related courses being added in Universities all around the world. I am
not sure if he reads even his own newspaper because he surely seems to
have missed this one:

He cannot be more wrong on this one. But what can you expect from
someone who doesn't see beyond Sameer. If there was any time after 60s
that the Hindi film lyric writing was this good, it is now. Here are
some names - Prasoon Joshi (I wonder how he missed him since he is
quoted below), Swanand Kirkire, Sayeed Quadri, Jaideep Sahni, Piyush
Mishra. All of these are writing excellent stuff. If that's not new
promising talent, I don't know what is.
Another ignorant rant:

unusual for any language.

I doubt if he even reads anything in Hindi. Hindi does not have
literature or literary giants anymore? Heard of Kashinath Singh, Vinod
Kumar Shukla, Srilal Shukla, Rajendra Yadav, Kedarnath Singh, Manglesh
Dabral, Leeladhar Jagoodi? Though Hindi literature is much more varied
and way beyond these names, it does have its superstars, if you are
only interested in that.
And here comes a gem:

Singer Lucky Ali mistook the word aas (hope) for 'ass' and almost
recorded it the asinine way.
"It was tough to explain to him the difference between aas and ass
because, probably, he had never heard of aas," says Akela. Clearly,
Hindi has stopped inspiring film writers.

And how does that episode exactly tells you that "Hindi has stopped
inspiring film writers" and that too "clearly"? Come on, Mr.
Wajihuddin. You may want to enroll for a course in reasoning. Tell you
what, enroll for the Hindi journalism course. Thinking and writing in
the language you speak may help.
Another gem:

The masses have no choice but to buy Hindi newspapers. The real love
for a language is reflected not in newspaper habits but in book sales,
and by that count the literary future of Hindi is gloomy.

Are you kidding? Where do you come up with sentences like "The masses
have no choice but to buy Hindi newspapers." I mean who is forcing the
masses to do so? I doubt it's the Shiv Sena.

Despite the bleak scenario of Hindi, some optimists feel that the
language is not in decline. "Hindi is being used increasingly in the
boardrooms and on the streets," says Prasoon Joshi, adman and poet.
"Yes, Sanskritised Hindi of Doordarshan is dying and it should die,"
he says.

What optimists? You only need to be a realist to see that Hindi is not
dying; it is evolving like every other surviving language. It is
borrowing words from languages that it comes in contact with - be it
English or other Indian languages. It is a naturally absorbing
language. It did so earlier with Arabic-Persian words. Did it not
remain Hindi anymore? It will probably borrow a lot from English now.
And it will still remain Hindi - understood and spoken by most of
India. Every surviving language does that. Prasoon Joshi knows more
about the boardrooms than you do. And you either believe him or show
us some real data, not your opinions. I for one am not interested in
what you think.

बहुत बढिया संदेश विनय - शानदार विश्लेषण है!
हिंदी प्रेमी भाईयों मैने हाल ही में एक जगह कुछ पढा जो सोचने का तरीका बदलने पर ही विवश करता है -
"किसी भी बात का विरोध मत करो - बस उस बदलाव के बारे में दिल से सोचो और उस पर काम करो जो आप इस दुनिया में देखना चाहते हैं. आप पाएंगे की आपकी आशाओं के अनुरूप समय से पहले आप जो देखना चाहते हैं वो हाजिर हो जाएगा. विरोध करने से भी उस नकारात्मक दिशा और दशा को बल मिलता है - बस अपनी दिशा में बढते चलो और अपना मनोबल उसे देते जाओ."
आज हम जहां भी हैं जैसे भी हैं वहां इसी लिये पहुंचे हैं की हमने परवाह नही की और अपने काम मे लगे रहे - आगे भी यही करेंगे! :)

thanks for doing this...this kind of article ( the original one) certainly mislead the common people...
I am completely agree with the point about hindi film lyrics of recent time.
I can see the growth of hindi even from my kitchen window without much of research.:)
few months ago i visited a sth indian city where people feel proud to anounce that they don't know hindi!...I saw a good change there when the die hard sth ind. 'Sawitri' and 'Julee' were trying to learn hindi from us...
recently I insisted some of my south Ind freinds to read my hindi blog...they tried and enjoyed, though the words as simple as "jaadui" and "ajanabee" were tough for them .:)
Generally I just read the discussions of this chitthakar group but this time I could not resist myself from thanking you..

Excellent rebuttal Vinay :)
I however wonder if its the "official bias" of the TOI group ;), what
else would the justify the recent launch of Hindi edition of
Economics times, they themselves know that the market of Hindi is on
the rise.

दुरुहता हिंदी से छुटकारा पाने और भाषा को समय न दे पाने की सुविधा का अकादमिक नाम है. मुझे आज तक हिंदी पढते हुए किसी भी शब्द का मतलब समझ पाने में दिक्कत नहीं हुई हां जबरन घुसाई अंग्रेजी ने जरूर लय बिगाडी है. जो हिंदी की दुरुहता का रोना रोते हैं वे साफ साफ कहें कि किस शब्द का मतलब समझ में नहीं आया... आओ खपलैटो आओ खेलते हैं भाषा भाखा

ब्लॉग पर तो नहीं पर तुम्हारे कहने के बाद मैंने अपना जवाब ज्यों का
त्यों उस मूल लेख के कमेंट्स में भेज दिया था. अभी तक तो नहीं दिख रहा.
मुझे कोई ख़ास उम्मीद भी नहीं है. जैसा अंग्रेज़ी में कहते हैं - मैं
अपनी साँस रोक कर नहीं बैठने वाला. :)

I am not sure about TOI's policy as such that's why I just hinted at
it. Simply, I don't know. But TOI being a large English publication,
one cannot deny the possibility that it has multiple levels of
authorities and some among them can be averse to the idea of Hindi's
growth. It's effecting their market in a very direct way. And after
all, wasn't this the group that shut down popular and profitable Hindi
magazines in 80s like maadhurii/filmfare and paraag and was forced to
keep nabhaaTaa only on the insistence of one of its trusties?

I am not sure about TOI's policy as such that's why I just hinted at
it. Simply, I don't know. But TOI being a large English publication,
one cannot deny the possibility that it has multiple levels of
authorities and some among them can be averse to the idea of Hindi's
growth. It's effecting their market in a very direct way. And after
all, wasn't this the group that shut down popular and profitable Hindi
magazines in 80s like maadhurii/filmfare and paraag and was forced to
keep nabhaaTaa only on the insistence of one of its trusties?

क्या किसी को याद है इसकी? वेताल, मैण्ड्रेक, लोथार, फ्लैश गॉर्डन और
अपने देसी नागरिक सुरक्षा दल के बहादुर और बेला :) मुझे यह दुख आज भी
सालता है कि इन्होंने ये, पराग, माधुरी और धर्मयुग जैसी पत्रिकाओं को
असमय खत्म कर दिया। पर क्या यह समय सही नहीं है इन्हें फिर जीवन देने का?
शायद इसी बहाने मैं अपने बचपन में लौट सकूं।

इंद्रजाल कॉमिक्स काश फिर से शुरु हो सकें……नही भूला हूं इन सब हीरोज़ को।
दो महीने पहले ही मैंनें अपने शहर के प्रसिद्ध लाईब्रेरी में जाकर पूछा कि क्या वह अब भी पहले की तरह ही इंद्रजाल कॉमिक्स को बाईंड करवा कर रखते हैं, (पुराने अंको को)।
जवाब मिला नही, और हैरान करने वाली अफसोसनाक जानकारी यह भी मिली कि लाईब्रेरी नें बच्चों वाला सेक्शन ही बंद कर दिया है।

इंद्रजाल कॉमिक्स की याद दिला कर आपने बचपन के सुहाने दिन याद करा दिए देबू दा... जिन कालजयी किरदारों का आपने जिक्र किया है उन्हें अब टीवी चैनलों के कार्टून किरदारों के जन्म ने खत्म कर दिया है. लेकिन बुरी बात यह है कि अब जो काल्पनिक कार्टून किरदार आते हैं वे नकारात्मक छवि वाले और हिंसक हैं...
यह सुझाव सही है कि वेताल और उसके बाकी साथियों को फिर जन्म दिया जाए.

कामिक्स के कीड़े तो हम भी रहे थे। अगर ये कामिक्स हिन्दी मे ना होते, क्या हम कभी उनके दीवाने होते? लोटपोट, दीवाना, मधुमुस्कान, पराग और हर वो किताब जिसमे कामिक्स होते थे, हम येन केन प्रकारेण (खरीदकर, उधारलेकर,चापलूसी करके, गायब करके और किराए पर लेकर) पढते थे।

बिल्कुल सच कहा जीतू भाई खरीदकर, उधार, चापलूसी, गायब करके और किराए पर.... ये सारे तरीके इस्तेमाल किए
लाइब्ररी के उस बाबू को पटा कर रखने के कितने जतन करना पड़ते थे... आज याद आता है तो सब एक सपना सा लगता है....
वो भी क्या दिन थे...

मेरे बचपन में तो यह आती नहीं थी, मैंने तो डॉयमण्ड कॉमिक्स के चाचा चौधरी, बिल्लू और पिंकी, मनोज कॉमिक्स के राम-रहीम, ताउजी से शुरुआत की थी और फिर राज कॉमिक्स के नागराज, सुपर कमांडो ध्रुव, भोकाल आदि पर शिफ़्ट हो गया था। पढ़ता तो आज भी हूँ इनको, अंग्रेज़ी उपन्यास बेशक पढ़ने पसंद हैं पर अंग्रेज़ी कॉमिक्स में आर्ची के अतिरिक्त (डीसी कॉमिक्स आदि) मुझे कभी पसंद नहीं आए।
मेरी एक मामीजी ने अपने बचपन के दिनों की इंद्रजाल कॉमिक्स काफ़ी इकट्ठी की हुई हैं और उनको बाइंड करा मोटे-२ पोथे रखे हुए हैं जिनको मैं कई बार पढ़ चुका हूँ!! :D

जी हाँ, सन् 1996 में The Phantom के नाम से आई थी यह फिल्म। फिल्म कुछ खास चली नहीं थी पर इसकी शूटिंग अच्छी जगहों पर हुई थी। अपने कलेक्शन के लिए इसकी वीसीडी ढूँढी तो कहीं नहीं मिली, काफ़ी खाक छानने के बाद किसी तरह पहलेऔरदूसरे की वेबसाइट पर मिली थी। :)

फैंटम तो अभी कुछ दिनों पहले ही किसी फिल्मी चैनल पर आ रही थी, शायद HBO,
नज़र रखिये ये फिल्में रीरन होती रहती हैं। पर ज़ाहिर तौर पर कॉमिक्स का
मजा तो नहीं मिल पायेगा।

फ़िर अगले पेज में comics search में phantom डालो .. फ़ैंटम के दीवाने यूरोप और ऑस्ट्रेलिया में ज्यादा हैं इधर यू.एस. में नही हैं.
हिंदी वाली तो नही मिलेगी - हां, फ़ैंटम के कथा चित्र दो अलग-अलग कलाकारों नें खास तौर पे बनाए थे उनमें से एक मूल वाले की कीमत ज्यादा है! मैंने कई बार सोचा की इस तरह से खरीदूं फ़िर विचार आया की भारत में किसी रद्दी-कबाडी वाले को बोल दूं की नजर रखना भई.. आप लोग तो भारत में हो, जुगाड बिठा सकते हो!

यार कतरा कतरा इकट्ठा करके, ढेर सारे कामिक्स तो बाइंडिग तो हमने भी कराए थे, लेकिन ज्यादातर, फैंटम वाले और अमर चित्र कथा (रामायण/महाभारत) के सैट कराए थे। सब कुछ सहेज कर अलमारी मे रख आए थे। एक गफ़लत के चलते, हमारा ढेर सारा कलैक्शन एक कबाड़ी के पास चला गया। अब वो कबाड़ी भी अल्लाह को प्यारा हो गया। कहाँ ढूंढे अब। कंही से इंद्रजाल कामिक्स का बाइंडेड (नया/पुराना) कलैक्शन मिले (हिन्दी/अग्रेजी) तो हम भी खरीददार है भाई।
