Seriously, you would say that he should already learn anything from the stimulus process is that there is a clear political division between both parties and inside his party and he is the leader who has to choose between push his agenda and mobilize the base of society or to navigate between a poisoned, corrupted and broken government system.

If he is committed for his new "hope-populous" theory of triumph of the reason and common well, how in earth is he not addressing a human crisis that affects 18 millions of humans in USA?. Everyday, millions are living their life through deception, discrimination and exploitation.

Working sun up to sun down without any right at all, fearful of the law enforcement, living in the shadows, vulnerable of any abuse in the grounds that ANYTHING is better than expose your self to the MIGRA, it is too risky and too expensive to cross the border again. The victims of sexual, domestic, labor or racist violence or abuse in this country are living with a greater fear: to be deported!

And Obama says that we need to study what it works and what it does not? is that what he did spending 800 billions of our money in 20 days? It is clear already that this is about commitment and courage, or in politicians lingo: where you want to spend you political capital and how much you want to calculate your chances to win in next elections? please answer first the last question.

So he says, Enforce borders and increase crack down on employers come first, then we can talk about who is really committed to be a citizen, and for those who can not wait, or for that matters suffer the separation of their families as a byproduct of this policies: GO TO MEXICO AND BRING YOUR FAMILY WITH YOU! we are working with their government to create jobs so you do not have to be here.

Common RAZA!

If Lincoln would started to address the end of slavery as "we will keep killing fugitives, honor the southern states to keep bringing slaves and for those slaves that really are committed to be free, we will study a long, expensive road to become free citizen..."
I guess Obama would not be President of the United States Of America today!.

Lincoln, a revolt in his own terms, was not supported by pro-human-rights and anti-racism voters base, Obama is!
Neither Lincoln had any ambition or claimed to suffer for the injustice that the Negroes received on those times, and even though he was clearer, more perseverance and more honest in his addresses than Obama, Why?

The good news are that it is possible to change this situation, our cause is far supported and reason assists us all. And Obama is much much much pressurable than Bush, and so we have to pressure him. Let's not confuse the willing of the people who voted for him for change with what is going to take to make Obama execute CHANGE. That would be insulting so many in suffering!

It is time to build strong on May First, let's not confuse the struggle for our life and the right to be a human being with so far the void and timid promises of Obama!

Those who do not believe the cause of their life is strong and relevant enough to overcome and become reality are condemned to sell their souls for less than what their people need.

How can Obama basically say to the 18 million undocumented
people that "lets wait and see what works"? Perhaps this is to be expected
from a person who is not aware of the struggle of the immigrant population in
the U.S., but this is certainly not to be expected from Obama. After all, he
stood with is In Chicago at the May Day 2006 rally and talked in
praise of the immigrants.
Talked about how he supports comprehensive immigration reform and he
co-sponsored a bill.

Was happened to that? Now he wants to wait and see what will work?
Isn't it obvious by now what works and does not work? Isn't obvious
that nothing short
of full and immediate legalization for all undocumented workers is the
only workable solution?

Or maybe the question we should ask now is "For whom does Obama want it to
work?"

While its highly commendable that he is doing interviews on Latino radio shows,
I think that at this stage of the game, Obama should not have to "see
what works"
he should be ready to act and to implement the ideas he talked about
during his campaign.
He him self said on numerous occasions that "raids do'nt work". Yet he
fails to take a stand.
Heck, even Bush was willing to bring the topic of immigration to the table. . .

Yes, that's true. Likewise, we all oughta be able to see that, as you say, there are serious disagreements within each party, not merely between parties.

Heck yeah, that is the only thing that really makes sense in people's lives. It's best for immigrants, best for non-immigrants, best for everybody.

How exactly will such a thing be implemented? Even if Barack Obama were Jesus (which he isn't) he couldn't just declare "this is so" and it would happen. Congress is going to be involved. Per the comments above - a coalition has to be built or _n-o-t-h-i-n-g_ will happen, whatever Barack Obama may or may not say for or against reform.

So congressmen in both houses have to be brought on board, they have to be CONVINCED that this matters, that this is important, that it is good for THEIR district... and then they might actually take action.

Barack Obama and every rep/senator has to hear about reform in THEIR district and the financial benefits it will bring to THEIR district (and voters they'll gain).... maybe that will get those guys moving? What do you think?
